Midland, Texas JOB DESCRIPTION JOB TITLE: LICENSED VOCATIONAL NURSE DEPARTMENT: COLEMAN / WOMEN'S SERVICES / PEDIATRICS REPORTS TO: CLINIC MANAGER OES CODE: 29-2061 FLSA EXEMPTIONS STATUS: NON-EXEMPT JOB SUMMARY Licensed Vocational Nurses play an important supporting role to the Physicians of Midland Community Healthcare Services. They are expected to provide excellent customer service while assessing, implementing, and evaluating the case of our patients. They are responsible for maintaining accurate and complete medical records of the clinic patients in a manner consistent with medical, administrative, ethical, legal, and regulatory requirements of the health care system. They also compile and report for health requirements and standards. JOB DUTIES Assess the patient's chief complaint or reason for the visit in order to properly prepare the patient for their visit with the provider. Document additional information not collected or disclosed during the initial triage. Adequately stock patient rooms for the patient visit. Maintain clean patient rooms, nurses stations, and laboratory areas. Learn and anticipate the needs of the provider to ensure an efficient and quality experience by the patient. Prepare and administer medications, immunizations, vaccines, and shots as directed by provider's orders and proper medical procedure. Educate patients with regard to treatment procedures, medications, diets, and provider's instructions. Collect blood, urine, fecal, cultures, and other laboratory specimens, log the specimens, an prepare them for laboratory testing though company and/or the proper vendor procedure. As needed, assist in maintaining proper stock of supplies, emergency supplies, review equipment functionality, and review proper oxygen tank levels. Assist in the inventory process regarding medications, samples, immunizations, shots, etc. Follow-up on patient calls, lab results, referrals, prescription requests, and patient questions. Clean and sterilize instruments and dispose of contaminated supplies in accordance with OSHA and clinic policy. Comply with all OSHA safety regulations. Maintain biohazard containers; ensure proper sharps usage, and proper usage of PPE. Schedule patient referrals and educate patient as to why a referral is needed as well as the referral process. Review records for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with company, state, and federal regulations. Maintain patient charts in the electronic medical records system, while ensuring accuracy if the patient record. Assist in quality improvement, auditing, safety, and compliance measures of the organization. Performs other duties as assigned by the Clinic Manager and/or Charge Nurse. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES No Supervisory Responsibilities are included in this position. CRITICAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES Customer Service Oriented. Computer & Technology Skills - The ability to navigate and utilize Microsoft Office, and the ability to learn to navigate and utilize proprietary medical software packages. Time Management - The ability to prioritize tasks in order to best serve the patient and the flow of the clinic. Cultural Competency - the ability to deal with people of various cultures and social status, as well as outside entities QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS Must have a High School Diploma or G.E.D. Texas Board of Nursing License, in good standing is required. Current CPR Certification is required. 1-3 years of customer service experience preferred. No felony results on a criminal background screening. Drug Screen Test with a negative result. Bilingual preferred WORK ENVIRONMENT/CONDITIONS BBP Class I: This position includes routine duties that are prone to bloodborne pathogen exposure. These employees will receive personal protective equipment training, bloodborne pathogen standard training, and learn safety precautions. Employees in this class will be offered vaccinations provided by Midland Community Healthcare Services. Physical Demand: Ability to interact with patients and operate office equipment for patient services. Employees will need the ability to lift a minimum of 25 lbs, or more, independently as necessary. Vision abilities are required to read and verify patient information, to read information on medical records, and the read information on computer systems. Writing, speaking, and typing abilities are required in order to interview and triage the patient then document information in the paper and electronic medical charts. Ability to pull, push, lift, and manipulate equipment and files. The ability to move freely about the front office and medical record areas in order to perform the job duties is required.
