Staff Mechanical Engineer/Consumer Hardware Products/San Francisco, CA
This position is for a company located in San Francisco, CA, and is an on-site role. The ideal candidate will possess a Mechanical Engineering background with experience in designing and developing consumer hardware products.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the design and development of mechanical systems and components for consumer products.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including electrical, firmware, and industrial design, to ensure seamless integration of mechanical designs.
- Conduct detailed analyses, including FEA, thermal simulations, and hand calculations, to validate design performance.
- Oversee the prototyping process, from concept through to testing and iteration, ensuring designs meet functional and aesthetic requirements.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive engineering documentation, including CAD models, drawings, and specifications.
- Manage relationships with external suppliers and manufacturers to ensure high-quality production of components and assemblies.
- Ensure compliance with relevant safety standards and regulations throughout the design and manufacturing processes.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the development of engineering best practices within the team.
Experience Required:
- 5+ years of experience in mechanical design engineering, preferably in the consumer product industry.
- Proficiency in CAD software such as SolidWorks or Siemens NX.
- Experience with FEA and thermal analysis tools.
- Strong understanding of materials selection, manufacturing processes, and design for manufacturability.
- Experience in prototyping and testing of mechanical systems.
- Familiarity with industry standards and regulations related to consumer product safety.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
