Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems is seeking a highly qualified, mission-oriented Staff Electronics Engineer (Network Engineer) to support our Avionics Integration organization. This position can be located in either Palmdale, CA or Rancho Bernardo, CA depending upon the selected candidate's preference.

Responsibilities including (but not limited to) the following:

  • Design, operate and manage companion, RMF compliant classified and unclassified networks in both lab and field environments.
  • Deploy, utilize, and maintain network management tools.
  • Maintain smooth operation of network and network management equipment during network expansion.
  • Collaborate with engineers and stakeholders to design network integration solutions to achieve mission objectives on a wide range data flow scenarios and use cases.
  • Plan and install security patches in adherence to program security requirements.
  • Monitor and sustain target uptime and latency on systems. Recommend and implement system enhancements that will improve the performance, utilization, and reliability of the system including scripting for optimizing IT environment.
  • Troubleshoot issues in collaboration with users, sector partners, and vendors. Develop and recommend corrective actions.
  • Collaborate on requirements and planning for network and network management hardware / software purchasing including upgrades, licenses, warranties, tech support and refreshes.
  • Document designs using detailed schematics, diagrams, and specifications and maintain system documentation, work instructions as needed. Prepares security documentation for hand-offs to Cyber Security.
  • Plan and report project status as required for recurring and non-recurring efforts.
  • Work under minimal direction and independently determine and develop approach to solutions.

The selected candidate will be required to work full-time, on-site at our facility. There is no remote / hybrid / telework available for this position. This position requires the ability to travel up to 10% of the time.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline and 12 years of related engineering experience; OR a Master's degree in a STEM discipline and 10 years of related engineering experience; OR a PhD in a STEM discipline with 7 years of related engineering experience.
  • Current Security+ with CE or equivalent certification under DoD 8570.01-M.
  • Current expertise with network architecture, network design, requirement specifications, and equipment selection with ability to generate, coordinate and maintain network designs and configuration artifacts.
  • In depth knowledge of, and experience with, routing and switching concepts and protocols to include IPSEC, BGP, and OSPF.
  • Solid understanding of network operating systems
  • Experience deploying, configuring, hardening, and diagnosing networks including switches, routers and firewalls.
  • Experience with network diagnostic, monitoring, and analysis tools
  • Ability to lift equipment weighing up to 40 pounds.
  • Active DoD Top Secret clearance
  • Ability to obtain and maintain initial Special Program Access (SAP/PAR). This SAP/PAR must be obtained prior to commencement of employment and must be obtained within a reasonable amount of time as determined by the company to meet its business needs. (Of note: SAP/PAR will be upgraded once selected candidate is in role. Therefore, candidate must also be able to obtain and maintain upgraded SAP/PAR.)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Current Special Program Access
  • Professional certification (e.g. CCNP, CCDP)
  • In depth knowledge of, and experience with, routing and switching concepts and protocols to include DNS, DHCP, GRE, QOS, VLANs, DMVPN and EIGRP
  • Experience with Splunk, SolarWinds, GEM One, Windows Server and VMWare
  • Experience with Type 1 Network encryption
  • Experience with advanced Bash/Ruby/Python script writing
  • Experience implementing Cross Domain Solutions.
  • DoD 8570 Certification in a primary OS (Windows, Cisco).
  • Experience with NetOps/NOC design integrated with program Cyber
  • Good communication, interpersonal skills, and the ability to interface with all types and levels of employees including counterparts from other sectors.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment where instances are being tested and deployed simultaneously and to adapt quickly to change.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Network Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or similar IT degree.
Salary Range: $165,000 - $247,600
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
