Position Description:
The Staff Attorney Counsel will serve as a hands-on legal advisor, delivering practical, business-driven legal solutions across various departments. This role is instrumental in aligning legal strategy with company goals, safeguarding client relationships, and ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and regulations. It requires a proactive mindset, strong business acumen, and the ability to navigate complex legal issues in a dynamic environment.
This position will facilitate litigation management, contract negotiations, and corporate governance, while advising on matters such as employment issues, finance, and regulatory compliance. The Staff Attorney Counsel will also support internal policy development, provide strategic oversight on collections and settlements, and lead initiatives to mitigate risk and support operational success.
Core Duties:
- Leverage strong business acumen to provide proactive, business-oriented guidance that supports strategic decision-making; balancing legal risk with operational goals to protect the company's interests, preserve client relationships, and drive sustainable growth.
- Provide strategic legal guidance to management and internal departments on a wide range of legal matters, including corporate compliance, contracts, litigation, finance, employment law, and regulatory issues.
- Proactively identify legal risks and develop strategies to mitigate exposure and safeguard the company's interests.
- Monitor and ensure ongoing compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations; track legislative changes and advise the company on legal and operational implications.
- Create, implement, and update internal policies and procedures to maintain legal compliance and reduce organizational risk.
- Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of contracts and legal documents to ensure favorable terms and minimize risk to the company.
- Manage all aspects of the company's litigation matters, including coordination with outside counsel, facilitating discovery, handling subpoenas, conducting legal research, and representing the company in legal proceedings when necessary.
- Support corporate governance efforts, including the preparation and maintenance of corporate records, minutes, and legal filings.
- Provide training and educational resources to staff on relevant legal topics, company policies, and best practices to ensure awareness and compliance.
- Maintain a strong understanding of financial regulations to support compliance efforts.
- Collaborate with the internal team to evaluate legal aspects of settlements, provide solutions, including litigation where appropriate, and monitor cases for issues requiring legal attention.
Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
- Active and in good standing membership with the California State Bar.
- At least 3 years of legal experience, ideally combining both law firm and in-house roles.
- Proven expertise in one or more of the following areas: personal injury litigation, contract law, employment law, healthcare, and regulatory compliance.
- Demonstrated high ethical standards and a strong sense of integrity.
- Solid business judgment with the ability to align legal strategies with organizational goals.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to establish and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Strong analytical thinking and effective problem-solving capabilities.
- Exceptional research, writing, and oral communication skills.
- Meticulous attention to detail, with strong organizational abilities.
- Capable of managing multiple priorities and meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Resourceful and strategic in identifying practical legal solutions that support business objectives.
