Full-time, career position in the automotive Technical Publications department as a Sr. Tools Developer and DITA Specialist. This role is responsible for developing and supporting the tools and processes that the Technical Writing personnel rely on to complete their deliverables. This position will be located in Fremont, CA or Palo Alto, CA office.
Responsibilities - Act as a go-to resource for the Technical Publications team in all things structured authoring (DITA XML) and support the team in completing their deliverables through streamlining processes and automation
- Gather information and requests from, and foster excellent working relationships with, subject matter experts (such as Engineers, software developers, product managers, and Technical Writers)
- Consider all aspects of a documentation tools request. Anticipate potential downstream issues that were not considered by others
- Work closely with the team and manager to triage workload and priorities, while keeping track of upcoming delivery dates and requirements
- Strategize and implement process improvements, for both documentation processes and peripherally-related processes
- Manage tasks and information flow using collaboration software (such as JIRA, Wrike, SharePoint, and custom databases)
- Assist with troubleshooting, in real time, any and all issues related to documentation development and publishing
Requirements - Technical Writing tools development experience with expert-level knowledge of relevant content development tools and best practices
- Bachelor's degree, certificate in Technical Writing, or equivalent professional experience
- Strong attention to detail, strong personal organization, collaboration, and time management skills while working in a fast-paced and challenging work environment with very tight deadlines and with minimal supervision
- Positive attitude toward change and late-stage project scope updates (which often are constantly changing until the last second) and a professional attitude toward work assignments, team members, and end users
- Expert-level experience with markup languages such as HTML, XML, DITA XML, or SGML and expert-level experience with structured authoring tools such as oXygen, XMetaL, structured FrameMaker, or Arbortext Editor. Ideally you should be a DITA guru
- Experience with Content Management System (CMS) architecture, especially SDL/RWS Tridion Docs, and managing publishing pipelines
- Ability to create useful and effective scripts (Batch, Bash, PowerShell, JavaScript, etc.) to streamline processes and reduce manual overhead for stakeholders

Expected Compensation
$112,000 - $234,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
