Primary Purpose
This position reports into the Utility Communication (UComm) Department and will provide advanced technical support for the delivery and maintenance of IT solutions related to the Cyber, Fiber Optics, Firewall, Real Time Networks, SmartGrid, Transport (SONET/DWDM) and Wireless (RF) Communication technologies supporting Exelon. Position will provide advanced technical support of the engineering, deployment, integration, and ongoing support of high available telecommunications technologies throughout the Exelon Companies.
This position supports the migration away from legacy communications to implement secure IP based network infrastructure in electric and gas substations along with other remote field locations throughout Exelon in accordance with established strategy, architecture, and compliance programs such as NERC-CIP to enable application communication. This role will work in collaboration with the network team, their leadership, enterprise business partners, vendors, and project/design teams, to deliver secure & reliable transport and IP networks throughout Exelon's large & complex enterprise and real time operational environments.
Note: This is a hybrid position (in-office with remote flexibility). Employees are required to be in office at least three days per week (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday).
No relocation is available.
Primary Duties
• Provide advanced technical and/or engineering support for engineering, deployment and operation of IT solutions related to the Cyber, Fiber Optics, Firewall, Real Time Networks, SmartGrid, Transport (SONET/DWDM) and Wireless (RF) Communication technologies supporting Exelon. (35%)
• Maintain strong client relationships while working with the Utility business implementing various telecommunications technology projects and on-going maintenance of these technologies. Interfacing with vendor partners supporting the construction of these backhaul technologies. (20%)
• Collaborate with IT Architecture and Engineering community in planning the introduction of new technologies and/or identifying the most appropriate technology choices to accomplish goals based on the Management Model. Ensure appropriate implementation and optimization of resources aligned with approved standards and architecture to meet the Utility Smart Grid application requirements. (10%)
• Identify and provide Business and IT data on IT trends and issues. Implement advanced action items based on data trends discovered. Contribute to IT architecture review and standards setting. (10%)
• Execute data protection requirements of business functions using the documented solutions and processes that were developed by more senior personnel (10%)
• Develop cost estimates and budgets to implement telecommunications projects (5%)
• Adhere to the established best practices, standards, procedures, guidelines, and methodologies within the work area. (5%)

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer science or related discipline and 4-7 years' relevant experience in telecommunication, electrical, computer engineering and related communication technologies or 6-9 equivalent combination of education and work experience.
• Demonstrates an insight on how work contributes to the bottom line.
• Has awareness of the unique characteristics of each component of data security as it relates to user IDs, data sets and how they are protected, the building of access lists, and password management.
• Sufficient fundamental proficiency to successfully access information and prepare reports of moderate difficulty. Demonstrated knowledge of basic databases and other sources of information to design and present reports.
• Able to motivate and inspire others to perform at a high level. Drives self and team to accomplish goals.
• Experience in the development and execution of several consulting, training, software and hardware contracts. Demonstrated knowledge of Engineering, Standards and Procedures in practical applications of moderate difficulty.
• Solid understanding of the capabilities of standard monitoring tools.
• Demonstrates mastery of real-time network design, deployment, and maintenance.
• Proficient knowledge of best practices in practical applications of moderate difficulty.
• Demonstrated ability to solve complex problems.
• Understanding of basic concept of TCP/IP networks.

• Light experience with dependency management.
• Ability to seek and act on guidance, and direction from team members who are more experienced.
• Driver's license and access to a car to visit substations and remote field locations. Preferred Qualifications
• Ability to explain and apply basic statutory instructions in normal situations on the job.
• Proficiency to produce meaningful reports regarding resource utilization upon request.
• Proficiency to define and contribute to the development of disaster recovery plans and contingencies.
• Passive Optical Network (PON) Provisioning and Deployment: Proven experience in the design, implementation, and maintenance of PON systems. Familiarity with GPON, EPON, and other PON technologies.
• MACSEC Encryption: Hands-on experience with MACSEC (Media Access Control Security) for securing data at the link layer. Knowledge of configuring and managing MACSEC on network devices.
• Network Group Encryption: Expertise in deploying and managing network group encryption solutions to ensure secure communication across network segments.
• MPLS Technologies: In-depth understanding of MPLS (Multiprotocol Label Switching) architecture, including MPLS VPNs, traffic engineering, and QoS (Quality of Service) mechanisms.
• Advanced degrees or specialized training in network technologies are a plus. Network Design and Implementation: Demonstrated ability to design and implement complex network infrastructures, including PON, MPLS, and encryption technologies.
• Certifications: Relevant certifications such as Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP), Juniper Networks Certified Internet Professional (JNCIP), or equivalent certifications in network security and PON technologies. Benefits
