Summary

Full-Time Sr. Fleet Maintenance Technician

Responsibilities

Repairs and maintains diesel and gas trucks, trailers, and lift trucks by performing the following duties.

  • Reads job orders and observes and listens to truck in operation to determine malfunction and to plan work procedures.
  • Assign jobs on a rotating basis to support Self Directed Work Teams.
  • Each job assigned should be handled from beginning to end.
  • Facilitate incoming issues on a monthly rotating basis, spokesperson to represent the group at any meetings during the Group Leader's absence.
  • Responsible for Red Tag list, communication between technicians, PM scheduling, and on call 24/7 to ensure all jobs are completed and over the road breakdown repairs are facilitated.
  • Repairs or replaces all parts of brake systems and wheel ends.
  • Performs diagnostic procedures and repairs on vehicle electronics, computer, and electrical systems.
  • Performs diagnostic procedures and repairs on vehicle air conditioning system.
  • Performs all periodic maintenance required for each unit.
  • Performs annual DOT inspections, including identifying worn or broken parts that may affect safety and road worthiness of the vehicle.
  • Contacts outside repair and maintenance professionals for assistance with repairs and diagnostics.
  • Receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies within the work unit.
  • Perform annual DOT inspections.
  • Diagnose and repair electrical and lighting systems in tractors and trailers.
  • Understands how air brake system works and be able to diagnose problems.
  • Perform complete trailer brake system overhaul, perform complete tractor brake overhaul.
  • Repair external engine components.
  • Advanced knowledge of heating and air conditioning systems to effectively diagnose and repair heating and cooling systems in the vehicles in a timely manner.
  • Perform chassis/suspension/driveline maintenance and repairs.
  • Communicate with drivers regarding "Vehicle Condition Reports" and make appropriate repairs
  • Diagnose mechanical failures
  • Tires/Wheel end diagnostics and repairs
  • Wheel alignment
  • Continually upgrading tools
  • Other duties may be assigned
  • Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years automotive maintenance experience
  • Minimum 5 years of truck and trailer repair experience
  • Broad knowledge of trucks and trailers
  • General welding skills preferred
  • Lift truck diagnostic and repair skills preferred
  • Basic computer skills as demonstrated by knowledge of and ability to use MS Excel and word processing applications preferred
  • Basic math skills
  • Ability to diagnose maintenance problems
  • DOT-approved brake inspector
  • Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) preferred.
  • DOT medical card (if applicable)
  • A valid driver's license is required with minimal violations as required by PGT driver's policies and be able to at least pull trucks in/out of shop safely.
