Your Career

The Data Platform team in the Cortex Xpanse group is expanding, and we're looking for a Senior Staff Software Engineer to join our team.

The data platform team is responsible for building the systems that turn trillions of data points into critical cybersecurity insights. As an engineer on this team, you will contribute to the full spectrum of our systems, from managing foundational data-heavy processing and data storage, to building and maintaining scalable pipelines, to developing frameworks, tools, and internal applications to make that data easily and efficiently available to other systems and teams.

Xpanse helps protect some of the world's most important organizations by finding risks on the Internet that no one else can find. Your expertise will help define and secure the perimeters of the world's largest and most consequential organizations in both the public and private sector.

Your Impact

As a Senior Staff Software engineer on the Data Platform team, you will
  • Design, build, and operate our foundational data-heavy services: storage (cloud data warehouse, data lake), orchestration (Jenkins), batch/stream processing (Apache Beam - Dataflow), streaming services (Pub/Sub)
  • Engage with product managers and engineers from downstream teams to architect, build, and maintain data systems to enable new product features and capabilities
  • Design and build services for end-to-end data security and data observability: managing access controls across multiple storage and access layers, tracking data quality, cataloging datasets and their lineage
  • Work with our stakeholders to push innovation across Xpanse and Palo Alto Networks
Qualifications:
Qualifications

Your Experience
  • 3+ years of experience in software engineering
  • Strong Java development skills
  • Proficiency working with data systems and pipelines such as Beam
  • Clear communicator, both in code and in writing, and bring a collaborative spirit to technical planning
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills - ability to leverage SQL, Jenkins, and Python to analyze data for operational insights
  • Strong familiarity with databases, data modeling, and performance optimization
Preferred Skills:
  • Have expertise with any of the following: BigQuery, PostgreSQL, BigTable, BigQuery, Apache Beam, database profiling, Terraform
  • Have experience using and enhancing CI/CD systems
  • Cyber security experience

Compensation Disclosure

The compensation offered for this position will depend on qualifications, experience, and work location. For candidates who receive an offer at the posted level, the starting base salary (for non-sales roles) or base salary + commission target (for sales/commissioned roles) is expected to be between $150k - $190k/YR. The offered compensation may also include restricted stock units and a bonus. A description of our employee benefits may be found here.
