Optomi, in partnership with a market leader in the financial sector, is seeking a Senior Software Engineering Manager for a hybrid position out of their office in Hartford, CT. The successful candidate will lead efforts to modernize legacy systems, drive cloud transformation initiatives, and promote operational agility-while ensuring alignment with business outcomes and end-user value. Experience of the right candidate:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field (Master's preferred).
- 10+ years of progressive experience in software engineering with at least 3-5 years in engineering management.
- Background in software development (preferably web-based technologies); not expected to code daily, but comfortable with code reviews and design critique.
- Experience with cloud technologies and cloud migration is strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with SRE practices is a plus.
- Experience working with globally distributed teams (onshore/offshore/contractor/employee mix).
- Solid understanding of Agile/Scrum methodologies.
- Experience in Property & Casualty insurance or financial services is a plus.
- Strong communication and leadership skills, with ability to inspire teams and drive business-focused outcomes.
Responsibilities of the right candidate:
- Lead software engineering teams responsible for developing and supporting high-impact, complex systems in Commercial Lines.
- Collaborate with peers, business stakeholders, and product managers to define requirements, align on strategy, and deliver business value.
- Provide people leadership including mentorship, performance management, and career development for teams of 10+ engineers.
- Drive operational excellence through process improvement, delivery metrics, root cause analysis, and implementation of best practices.
- Ensure code quality, architectural soundness, and technical alignment through design oversight and occasional pull request reviews.
- Foster a strong engineering culture that supports technical innovation and cross-functional collaboration.
- Contribute to vendor evaluation, contract management, and budgeting processes.
- Encourage and support the adoption of modern engineering practices, cloud technologies, and infrastructure efficiency.
- Manage teams across onshore, offshore, and contractor models; ensure cohesion across QA, BA, and development disciplines.
