About the Role As a Sr. Software Engineer on the Medical Coding team you will be building generative AI and ML powered solutions on top of clinical documentation. You will work closely with the product, design, and machine learning teams to design and build services, APIs, and tools that support our SaaS products.
You will create and maintain backend services and build on top of machine learning to solve challenging problems in healthcare such as automated medical coding and document selection. There will be opportunities to incorporate feedback from internal and external users to land features so that they truly solve problems for our customers. You will be expected to come up with creative solutions, share your experience with the team, help mentor junior team members, and work together to shape the platform architecture. An ideal candidate has existing experience building for less technical users and is excited to innovate for impact in healthcare.
The AKASA office is located in South San Francisco. While we support remote work on a variety of teams, we have a strong Bay Area presence across the company. The local R&D teams come into the office every Wednesday for co-working days, which this role will be expected to attend.
What You'll Do - Land cutting-edge and novel experiences at large healthcare organizations
- Lead and participate in design discussions, planning sessions, and code reviews.
- Partner closely with our product, design, and machine learning teams
- Design, build, and maintain shared APIs, tools, services, and applications
- Mentor junior engineers on the team
- Work with team members to shape AKASA's platform architecture
Skills & Qualifications - Bachelor of Science in Computer Science/Software Engineering or related field.
- 5+ years of professional experience in software development or machine learning
- Proven track record with SaaS products
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with meticulous attention to detail
Nice to haves - Experience building consumer applications on top of ML pipelines
- Familiarity with FastAPI, SQLAlchemy, Postgres.
- Proficiency in Docker, Kubernetes, AWS.
- CI/CD experience with GitHub Actions.
- Firm grasp of system design principles.
- Experience with healthcare data exchange (FHIR, HL7, EDI)

Compensation - Based on market data and other factors, the salary range for this position is $160,000-$220,000 + Equity. However, a salary higher or lower than this range may be appropriate for a candidate whose qualifications differ meaningfully from those listed in the job description.
