Northrop Grumman Space Systems-Launch and Missile Defense Systems offers an exciting career opportunity for a Sr Principal Systems Engineer to join our team of qualified and diverse individuals. This position, located in Colorado Springs, CO, or Huntsville, AL, plays a crucial role in supporting the U.S. President, Secretary of Defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels. Relocation Assistance is not available for this position, and this role is on-site with no remote options. Position Overview: The Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program serves as the integrating element of the Missile Defense System. It is an essential operational system that enables the U.S. president, the secretary of defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels to systematically plan ballistic missile defense operations, observe the battle's development, and dynamically manage designated networked sensors and weapons systems to achieve global and regional mission objectives. C2BMC supports a layered missile defense capability that allows for an optimized response to threats of all ranges at every phase of flight. C2BMC acts as a force multiplier, globally and regionally networking, integrating, and synchronizing autonomous sensor and weapon systems and operations to enhance performance. Additionally, C2BMC is a crucial component of all system ground and flight tests, which verify and exercise the current and future capabilities of the missile defense system. The selected candidate will join the Global Systems Engineering Team for the C2BMC National Team, where they will work as a capability concept and system architecture engineer. They will collaborate with a multi-contractor team to develop and implement a comprehensive assessment program that supports the capability-based acquisition of the C2BMC Element of the BMDS. Work will be performed under the direction of various technical leads and product owners and will require interfacing with team members, C2BMC management, and government customers to ensure that high-quality products are delivered on time and within the available resources. A successful candidate should possess the ability to be part of an integrated team tasked with developing and maintaining the physical, functional, and technical requirements baselines necessary to describe the desired capabilities of an evolving BMDS Battle Management, Command & Control, and Communications (C2BMC) system. Essential Functions: Will complete use case development and prepare systems engineering artifacts, including defining Epics and Features to be developed by program Cross-Functional Product Teams to implement customer-requested capabilities
Support the development and review of interface documents, system requirements, and the Verification Cross Reference Matrix (VCRM), as well as develop architectural documentation, estimate system engineering requirements, and author and perform formal and informal engineering reviews
Following DOORS processes and procedures, reviewing the content and details of technical products, and acting as a technical interface to MDA working-level counterparts as necessary
I will work with teams that span multiple functions to facilitate data connectivity from architecture to requirements and testing
In this role, a successful candidate will work to understand the data stream, build an engineering pipeline, create a maintenance routine, and offer support for troubleshooting tools
Will be involved in tool development
Will provide mission analysis, along with skills in developing capability concepts, use cases, sequence diagrams, and system-level requirements
Will have experience in missile defense command and control, battle management, architectures, and communications system concepts, along with mission and standard system testing and data analysis techniques, including requirement verification
Will provide maintenance of system and component baselines within a requirements management system
Will define the connections between internal and external components
Will communicate system-level use cases and the related Epics and Feature relationships to a diverse range of customers, developers, engineers, subject matter experts, and users
Will generate system and element-level functional, performance, and interface specifications that document and control the achievement of desired capabilities
Will develop capability assessments, assessment objectives, and related plans and procedures for assessment Basic Qualifications: Please note your updated security clearance and IAT/relevant certifications on your resume, if applicable. Bachelor's Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university and 8 years of related experience, or a Master's degree in a STEM discipline and 6 years of experience, or a PhD and 4 years of experience.
Applicants must possess a current, active in-scope DoD-issued Secret security clearance at the time of application, which is required to start
The ability to travel up to 10% to support business needs is required
Must have experience in relevant DoD interface, assessment, and test methodologies and terminologies, as well as Missile Defense Agency (MDA) elements or components
Must have experience participating in requirements development and capability assessments of the C2BMC or equivalent BMDS elements
Experience must include specific roles on a program, with a focus on:
Use case development
Requirements solicitation
Derivation and Decomposition of requirements into lower-level subsystems and components
Utilizing a structured and logical approach
Demonstrated ability to analyze high-level needs utilizing use cases/scenarios and relate them to the requirements
Must be able to lead efforts associated with developing objectives and requirements for capability assessments and have prior experience writing assessment plans
Must have experience developing Use cases to support test case flow development
Must be an expert in all Microsoft Office applications and familiar with DOORS
Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills and be able to work effectively and cooperatively with people within and outside the program Preferred Qualifications: Master's Degree in Systems Engineering
Certification: INCOSE Certified Systems Engineering Professional (CSEP) Certification
Certification: Object Management Group Certified Systems Modeling Professional - Model Builder Fundamental (OCSMP - MBF)
Experience or knowledge in Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) or model-based engineering is preferred
Experience with Agile methods and defining epics and features is a significant advantage
Experience in system architecture and network communications is highly desired
Skills in logical architecture modeling and interface definition, along with knowledge of cybersecurity concepts and security accreditation, are highly desirable
Experience with scripting and automated test development is advantageous Salary Range(s) Colorado Springs, CO: $124,900 - $187,300 Huntsville, AL: $131,100 - $196,700 Salary Range: $124,900.00 - $196,700.00 The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
