Sr. Manager Warehouse

What you will do

In this vital role you will support internal warehouse and outsourced warehouse / 3rd party logistics (3PL) capabilities to help ARI reach its full potential within the Amgen network, now and in the future. This role has strategic importance in influencing and contributing to the Amgen network future warehousing strategy; and will re-imagine how ARI warehouse systems and processes work to enable successful execution by our OSP partner(s), including integration of automated and digital solutions. This position has visibility across site and supply chain leadership, network manufacturing site supply chain leadership, the Global Supply Chain network, the Operations Strategy and Business Resilience (OSBR) team. This role sits on the Supply Chain Leadership Team (SCLT) comprised of Strategic Planning, Procurement, and Warehouse Logistics.

The Senior Manager Supply Chain, Warehouse and Distribution at Amgen, Rhode Island is accountable for leading all aspects of the ARI warehouse and distribution operations, including:
•   Site Warehousing Operations: Together with your team, develop a vision, organizational design, and a strategic roadmap for ARI warehousing and logistics success. Directly lead a team of 5 subject matter experts (SMEs) ensuring ownership and optimization of key warehouse processes including: GMP receiving, raw material picking, packaging and shipping, drug substance (DS) storage and shipping, raw material inventory management, SAP and systems data management, general warehouse operations, and continuous improvement project management. Support both manufacturing plants located at ARI and rapidly resolve any site issues ensuring production targets are achieved. Partner with the Facilities and Engineering team and vendors to ensure maintenance and reliability of the site warehouse facility, equipment, and machinery. Partner with and influence Manufacturing, Quality, Finance, and site partners to optimize performance per strategic, business, and budgetary targets. Oversee execution of the short and mid-term strategic roadmap execution plan. Develop risk mitigation plans for raw materials and DS stored within the warehouse to ensure continuous operation and supply.
•   Warehouse Capacity: Develop analytic tools to predict and prepare for warehouse capacity needs for both the short, mid, and long-term horizon. Translate capacity needs into working project plans and oversee execution. Develop and maintain a capital plan to ensure safe and compliant warehouse operations.
•   Outside Service Provider Strategy and Oversight: Influence and provide strategic direction and leadership for a team of 50 OSP colleagues supporting ARI warehousing tactical operations. Iterate and improve existing processes to reflect changing Amgen network and ARI site strategy and utilization of OSP warehouse providers (warehouse GMP and non-GMP operations, garment supply, and offsite general supply storage). Develop efficient processes and ensure Amgen / OSP partnership for the OSP to meet or exceed key safety, quality, reliability, and business performance targets. Shape and influence Amgen network strategy for OSP warehousing and services as part of the End to End (E2E) Supply Chain initiative.
•   External Warehousing and Logistics Strategy and Oversight: Design and leverage effective external warehousing strategies to ensure adequate general supply, raw material and drug substance capacity at all storage conditions, ensuring tools and logistics solutions to ensure material is available on time in full (OTIF) to fulfill onsite production demand. Develop predictive digital solutions and build partnerships with warehouse providers and logistics service providers to meet or exceed key safety, quality, reliability, and business performance targets. Shape and influence Amgen network strategy for external warehousing as part of the End to End (E2E) Supply Chain initiative.
•   Innovation and Digital Transformation: Understand emerging trends and develop an innovative technology roadmap for site warehousing, including Automation, Digitalization, and Robotics. Continually evolve the way we work by embracing digital and technology solutions that will improve our reliability, efficiency, agility, and resiliency. Develop action plans to implement solutions aligned with the long-term ARI site and functional Supply Chain strategy, including data tie-in with support functions / enablers. Partner with the SCLT and End to End Supply Chain (E2E network) to complete large, cross-functional, or cross-site initiatives.

•   Compliance, Quality, & Inspection Readiness: Accountable to maintain GMP controlled processes, procedures, and systems in full compliance with current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) and ensure that the Warehouse team is maintained in a continual state of inspection readiness. Ensure complete and timely Quality record support, oversight and closure. Ensure warehouse and distribution practices (processes & methods) and policies align with external regulatory requirements and are consistent with company policies. Represent the Supply Chain GMP processes to Regulatory Authorities during inspections. Ensure compliance with DOT, IATA, and shipping / logistics / hazardous material transportation and storage regulations.
•   Talent Management: Build a robust talent pipeline with diverse capabilities required to thrive in the present and future. Ensure an ongoing organizational structure capable of adapting to evolving business needs. Establish technical training, leadership training, and cross-training plans to continually develop staff and build breadth and depth in the organization. Partner with staff to establish robust long-term development plans aligned with their aspirations and build robust succession plans through insight to site, network, and external talent.
•   Network Collaboration: Establish and maintain relationships with internal customers and service providers (QA, QC, Finance, Manufacturing, PD, IS, Security, Safety, etc.), Global Supply Chain, OSPR, and all Amgen Sites to foster process alignment and superior customer service. Partner with the network to advance learning and collective performance and influence direction. Align best practices and ensure consistency within the network. Lead and represent ARI Warehouse initiatives at the site and network level. What we expect of you

Basic Qualifications:
•   High School Diploma / GED and 12 years of Supply Chain or Operations experience OR
•   Associates degree and 10 years of Supply Chain or Operations experience OR
•   Bachelor's Degree and 8 years of Supply Chain or Operations experience OR
•   Master's Degree and 6 years of Supply Chain or Operations experience OR
•   Doctorate Degree and 2 years of Supply Chain or Operations experience
•   2 years of managerial experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs or directing the allocation of resources Preferred Qualifications:
•   Experience with GMP and GDP operations and regulation including warehouse and inventory management, distribution, logistics, security, and associated Quality Management processes
•   Demonstrated leadership skills.
•   Association for Supply Chain Management (ASCM/ APICS) certification or 6 Black Belt
•   Knowledge of SAP systems (Receipt, Material Movement, Cycle Count / Inventory reconciliation, Material Issuance, Distribution) and master data management
•   Regulatory knowledge and the ability to represent warehousing operations during regulatory inspection.
•   Strong verbal and written communication skills.
•   Analytical and problem-solving skills including data and analytics competence.
