The Sr. Machinist is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining computer numerical control (CNC) machines to produce precision metal and plastic parts. They interpret blueprints, program CNC machinery, and ensure products meet quality and safety standards.



Key Responsibilities

  • Machine Setup & Operation
  • Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and CAD models.
  • Set up and adjust CNC machines (lathes, mills, grinders, etc.) for production.
  • Load raw materials and position workpieces accurately.
  • Programming & Adjustments
  • Input and modify CNC programs as needed using G-code or CAM software.
  • Select appropriate tools, speeds, and feeds for machining operations.
  • Troubleshoot and adjust machine settings to maintain part quality.
  • Quality Control & Inspection
  • Use precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, gauges) to inspect parts.
  • Ensure finished products meet required specifications and tolerances.
  • Perform in-process inspections and make necessary adjustments.
  • Maintenance & Safety
  • Perform routine machine maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Follow all safety protocols and wear required PPE.
  • Keep work areas clean and organized.


Qualifications & Skills

  • Experience operating CNC mills, lathes, or grinders.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing).
  • Proficiency with CNC programming languages (G-code, M-code).
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of shop math and precision measuring tools.
  • Ability to work independently and meet production deadlines.
  • High school diploma or equivalent (technical certification preferred).


Work Environment

  • Manufacturing or machine shop setting.
  • May require standing for long periods and lifting heavy materials.
  • Exposure to noise, metal shavings, and industrial lubricants.
