Description & Requirements

This DevOps Configuration Management Sr. Engineer works with developers, testers, and IT operational staff to administer DevOps and Program Support Software including but not limited to: SDLC management toolsets, DevOps communication management toolsets, and knowledge management toolsets. Helps support systems pertaining to IT automation around builds and deployments, supports and configures continuous integration environments as directed, and contributes to all facets of the software build & release cycle as it pertains to supporting applications.Per VES contract requirements, staff working on the VES project must be a US Citizen or US Legal Resident (green card holders)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement the configuration management system which supports the enterprise software development life cycle (SDLC.)
- Manage source code within the version control system (i.e. branching, sync, merge), compile, assemble, and package software from source code.
- Participate in defining and providing guidance on standards/best practices.
- Develop automation scripts for build, deployment, and versioning activities.
- Research and resolve technical problems associated with version control and continuous integration systems.

- May provide guidance, coaching, and training to other employees within job area.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: -

The Senior DevOps Configuration Management Engineer serves as Application Owner and the primary administrator for our critical collaboration and DevOps platforms: Atlassian Jira & Confluence, Microsoft SharePoint Online, Smartsheet, and ServiceNow and others as needed. While grounded in DevOps and Configuration Management principles, this role focuses specifically on the expert configuration, management, optimization, and integration of these key enterprise applications. This role will be responsible for ensuring stability, security, performance, compliance and continuous improvement of these platforms to support vital business and development processes across the VES organization.

Minimum Requirements

- Bachelor's degree in relevant field of study and 5+ years of relevant professional experience required, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Application Ownership & Administration:

o Serve as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) and primary technical point of contact for Jira, Confluence, SharePoint Online, Smartsheet, and ServiceNow and other supporting applications.

o Perform all aspects of application administration including installation (where applicable), configuration, patching, upgrades, and performance tuning.

o Manage user access, permissions, roles, and groups according to security best practices and business requirements across all platforms.

o Manage application integrations and ensure compliance with SOX, HIPAA, and VA regulations and other compliance frameworks.

o Develop and maintain application-specific configuration management plans and documentation.

2. Platform Configuration & Customization:

o Jira/Confluence: Design, implement, and manage complex Jira workflows, screen schemes, permission schemes, custom fields, and notification schemes. Administer Confluence spaces, permissions, templates, and integrations. Manage Atlassian marketplace apps/add-ons as-needed.

o SharePoint Online: Govern and administer site collections, sites, permissions, content types, and document libraries. Assist with site design, structure, and basic branding. Manage integration points within the Microsoft 365 ecosystem.

o Smartsheet: Handle intake for sheet requests, reports, dashboards, and automated workflows. Manage users, groups, and licensing. Explore and implement Smartsheet integrations.

o Slack: Administer Slack workspace(s) settings, policies, channel management (public, private, shared), user groups, and security configurations (e.g., SSO, data retention). Manage app integrations, permissions, and the app approval process. Stay current on Slack features and best practices for enterprise communication.

o Other tooling as necessary - Tool sets will grow and change with the needs of the business.

3. Monitoring, Troubleshooting & Support:

o Proactively monitor application health, performance, and availability using appropriate tools.

o Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve complex technical issues related to the managed platforms, engaging vendor support when necessary.

o Provide Tier 2/3 support to end-users and other IT teams for issues related to these applications.

o Develop and maintain pertinent knowledge base articles and user documentation.

4. Integration & Automation:

o Identify opportunities and implement integrations between these core platforms and other business/DevOps tools (e.g., CI/CD pipelines, code repositories, monitoring systems) using APIs, webhooks, or built-in connectors.

o Automate routine administrative tasks using scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Python, JavaScript) or platform-specific automation tools.

5. Security & Compliance:

o Implement and maintain security configurations according to company policy and industry best practices.

o Participate in security and compliance audits and ensure platform compliance with relevant regulations.

o Manage application backups and participate in disaster recovery planning and testing.

6. Collaboration & Strategy:

o Collaborate with stakeholders (IT, Development, Security, Business Units) to understand requirements and translate them into effective platform solutions.

o Stay current with platform updates, new features, and industry best practices, providing recommendations for improvements and strategic roadmap development.

o Manage vendor relationships for support and licensing.

Annual salary is just one component of Maximus's total compensation package. Other rewards may include short- and long-term incentives as well as program-specific awards. Compensation ranges may differ based on contract value but will be commensurate with job duties and relevant work experience.
