Job Description Brightspeed is searching for a Senior Inside Plant (ISP) Engineer to join our team. As Senior ISP Engineer, your primary role will be building our new voice platform supporting fiber voice, SIP-trunking, and circuit emulation technology. You will develop detailed engineering designs including materials and costing estimates to support and install the new equipment working closely with the high-level plans and outlines prepared by Brightspeed Planning. You will utilize mechanized tools including: NDS, AutoCAD, IQGeo, JDS, FORTE, WFMT, WMS, ARMOR, TIRKS, and the full suite of Microsoft Office. In this role you will survey, design, and implement ISP plans to support the Converged Services Platform (CSP) initiative. In addition, you will interact with internal customers, vendors, suppliers and maintain open conversation with planning and all company departments to provide a high-quality platform for Brightspeed customers
As Senior ISP Engineer, your responsibilities will include: • Developing/defining plans for the implementation of new ISP installation or modifications to existing facilities
• Preparing plans and specifications, to include gathering field data collected through field survey visits sometimes with vendor/contractors
• Assuring that the most feasible, practical, and economical means to complete the work are utilized
• Providing cost data to support capital planning and budgeting
• Monitoring and controlling project expenditure
• Overseeing the installation/construction and testing of plant facilities, meeting the required commitment dates
• Design circuits that interconnect the new platform with the legacy environment; TDM switches, Metro Ethernet devices, etc.
• Resolving interoperability problems to obtain operations across all platforms including e-mail, files transfer, multimedia, teleconferencing and the like
• Configuring systems to user environments
• Supporting acquisition and implementation of hardware and software as well as subcontractor services as needed
QualificationsWHAT IT TAKES TO CATCH OUR EYE: - Associate degree or equivalent education and relevant experience
- 5 to 8 years plus related experience in telecommunications, engineering, or network planning or equivalent
- Knowledgeable and skilled in planning /engineering and reading construction drawings / prints
- Experience with VoIP routing and switching products, SIP Peering, Wholesale Interconnect, SS7 Trunks, End Office Switch Replacement, Cross LATA Data products, Alianza replacement, and DCS Consolidation / Elimination.
- Understanding of switch, technologies and protocols, along with layer 2 and layer 3 routing through the network.
- Knowledgeable and able to work in appropriate systems and Microsoft Office
- Ability to work with Planning, Operations, Labs, all internal customers, maintain budget, and assist with forecasting budgets
- Ability to maintain positive interaction between all governing authorities
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to manage small to medium sized projects with cross functional and vendor interaction.
