Travel: 10-20% (Mix of day and overnight travel; expenses reimbursed)
Pay: $60 - $72/hr. (Based on experience)
Position Overview:
Seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer (Engineer IV) to support the Facilities Engineering team within the Natural Gas sector. This role will serve as the Electrical Subject Matter Expert (SME) on major capital projects such as compression and LNG facilities. The ideal candidate will provide electrical engineering oversight and lead design reviews on projects managed by EPC contractors.
This hybrid role is based in Charlotte, NC, and is open to local candidates only.
Key Responsibilities:
Electrical Engineering & Design Oversight
- Act as the SME on electrical aspects of large-scale facility design projects.
- Review designs and deliverables for compliance with technical standards.
- Oversee development and integration of:
- Facility layouts, underground utilities, conduit/duct banks
- Grounding, lightning protection, and cathodic protection systems
- Medium & low voltage equipment, transformers, panelboards, VFDs
- Short circuit/arc flash studies and cable systems
- Conduit seals in hazardous areas (Class I Div 1/2)
Controls & Instrumentation
- Evaluate and coordinate controls for switchgear, MCCs, PLCs, and RTUs
- Assess process instrumentation (sensors, transmitters, detectors)
- Support Modbus communications, SCADA, and network architecture
- Review integration documents and commissioning readiness
Project Coordination
- Coordinate with EPCs, utilities, and integrators to ensure design and schedule alignment
- Lead technical aspects of scope development, RFPs, and contractor evaluations
- Participate in design and field reviews, progress meetings, and commissioning activities
- Ensure smooth interface between disciplines and stakeholders
Quality Assurance & Documentation
- Conduct field walkdowns, resolve design/construction issues
- Review as-builts, manage design changes, and verify installation accuracy
- Support security integration and code compliance
- Develop engineering templates, guides, and documentation best practices
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program (Master's may substitute)
- 8+ years of electrical engineering experience in industrial or energy-related fields
- Prior experience reviewing EPC deliverables
- Familiarity with LNG or Compression Facility projects strongly preferred
- Proficiency with MS Office tools (Word, Excel, Outlook, Adobe)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Valid driver's license required
- Must be local to Charlotte, NC - no per diem or relocation provided
