Overview Selective Insurance is looking for a Senior Cloud Software Engineer to build our next generation software solutions for our customers, agents, and employees. We are focused on Microsoft Azure cloud technologies for green field custom software development, and are looking for experienced, passionate software engineers to create, evangelize, and implement these new software architectures. This individual will build and deploy cutting edge, cloud-first solutions that delight our customers.

Responsibilities
  • Designs, builds, tests, deploys, maintains, and operates complex, multi-tiered systems across multiple technology stacks using cloud-first, Azure centric architectures
  • Builds solutions that address non-functional requirements aligned to business needs, including security, performance, scalability, and quality
  • Builds cloud-native solutions that integrate with existing, on-premises legacy apps
  • Acts as a technical leader and force multiplier, guiding and mentoring less experienced engineers, reviewing code, and coaching on improving code quality and outcomes
  • Works on agile teams as a senior technologist, collaborating closely with the other team members to ensure successful product outcomes and maximize business value
  • Takes a long-term view of software engineering, ensuring best practices and coding standards are applied, and taking a balanced stance toward managing technical debt
  • Drives continuous deployment best practices in the team, continually looking for opportunities to advance and improve DevOps practices to maximize team productivity and SDLC process effectiveness
  • Manages expectations of stakeholders, communicates technical risks, and removes or escalates blockers that inhibiting progress
Qualifications
  • College degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or related field or work equivalent
  • 5+ years hands-on software engineering experience using modern software engineering technologies, tools, best practices, and design patterns
  • Strong understanding of a variety of full stack software engineering platforms and languages, e.g. C / Java, Angular / React, JavaScript / Node.js
  • Experience with cloud-first architectures and related Azure services, e.g. Container Apps, API Management / App Gateway, Key Vault, App Services, Logic Apps, SQL MI
  • Experience operating complex technology solutions, managing service interruptions, triaging defects, troubleshooting and debugging issues
  • Familiarity with modern cloud-native patterns principles, e.g. Twelve-Factor Apps, Service Oriented Architectures / microservices / REST, DevOps, Continuous Deployment, and Site Reliability Engineering
  • Understanding of Infrastructure-as-Code patterns and related technologies e.g. Bicep, ARM, Terraform
  • Strong understanding of cloud-native security and networking patterns and technologies
  • Ability to mentor and coach other software engineers and act as a technical leader for an agile product team
  • Experience working on agile teams in a complex, scaled technology environment
  • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical team members and stakeholders
  • Strong time management skills, with the ability to self-manage priorities and balance across multiple competing objectives simultaneously
  • Experience with SDLC and change management processes in a highly controlled and regulated environment (e.g. Property Casualty insurance, Financial Services) is preferred

The actual base salary is based on geographic location, and the range is representative of salaries for this role throughout Selective's footprint. Additional considerations include relevant education, qualifications, experience, skills, performance, and business needs.
Pay Range

USD $104,000.00 - USD $150,000.00 /Yr.
