Role Summary

Rivian is seeking a highly skilled and proactive Atlassian Platform Administrator to play a crucial role in managing and optimizing our core collaboration and workflow platforms. This position will be central to supporting our engineering, product development, and project management teams by ensuring our Jira and Confluence environments are robust, efficient, and aligned with Rivian's rapid growth and evolving needs. You will be the technical expert for our Atlassian suite, driving best practices, implementing solutions that support critical business processes, and empowering our teams to deliver innovative products. This role demands a strong understanding of project and product management methodologies, exceptional problem-solving skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively across a diverse organization. This position will be located in Irvine, CA and will report to our Solutions Engineering Manager

Responsibilities

  1. Jira and Confluence Platform Management & Optimization:
  • Core Administration: Perform comprehensive administration of Rivian's Jira Software, Jira Service Management, and Confluence instances, including managing users, groups, permissions, project roles, and global configurations.
  • Workflow Design and Implementation: Design, implement, and maintain complex Jira workflows, screen schemes, field configurations, and notification schemes to support various project and product lifecycle stages.
  • Confluence Space Management: Manage and organize Confluence spaces, ensuring effective information architecture, permission controls, and the use of templates to promote knowledge sharing and collaboration.
  • Performance Monitoring and Tuning: Monitor the performance and stability of the Atlassian platforms, identify potential bottlenecks, and implement optimizations to ensure optimal user experience.
  • Upgrades and Maintenance: Plan, coordinate, and execute Atlassian platform upgrades, patching, and maintenance activities in collaboration with relevant IT teams.
  1. Supporting Project and Product Management Processes:
  • Jira Project/Program Configuration: Configure and customize Jira projects and programs to align with Rivian's project and product management methodologies (e.g., Agile, Waterfall, Hybrid). This includes setting up boards, backlogs, sprints, and release management processes.
  • Roadmap and Planning Tooling: Leverage Jira Portfolio (Advanced Roadmaps) or similar add-ons to support product roadmap visualization, capacity planning, and dependency management.
  • Metrics and Reporting: Develop and maintain Jira dashboards and reports to provide visibility into project progress, team performance, and key product development metrics for stakeholders.
  • Integration with Development Tools: Configure and support integrations between Jira and other development tools (e.g., Bitbucket, GitLab, Jenkins, CI/CD pipelines) to streamline the software development lifecycle.
  • Service Desk Management: Manage and customize Jira Service Management to support internal and potentially external support processes, including request queues, SLAs, automation rules, and knowledge base integration.
  1. Governance, Best Practices, and Documentation:
  • Establish and Enforce Standards: Define and enforce Rivian's best practices and governance policies for Jira and Confluence usage, ensuring consistency, data integrity, and compliance.
  • Develop Training Materials: Create and maintain comprehensive documentation, including user guides, best practice documentation, and training materials for Jira and Confluence.
  • Conduct Training Sessions: Deliver engaging and informative training sessions to onboard new users and educate existing users on advanced features and best practices.
  1. Collaboration and Stakeholder Management:
  • Liaison with Project and Product Teams: Work closely with Project Managers, Product Managers, Engineering Leads, and other stakeholders to understand their specific needs and translate them into effective Atlassian solutions.
  • Requirements Gathering: Facilitate workshops and discussions to gather requirements for new Jira and Confluence configurations, workflows, and integrations.
  • Vendor Management: Interact with Atlassian and third-party add-on vendors for support, licensing, and evaluation of new tools.
  1. Issue Resolution and Continuous Improvement:
  • Troubleshooting and Support: Provide timely and effective troubleshooting and support for user issues related to Jira and Confluence.
  • Identify Improvement Opportunities: Proactively identify areas for improvement within the Atlassian platforms and propose solutions to enhance efficiency, collaboration, and user satisfaction.
  • Evaluate New Add-ons and Features: Research and evaluate new Atlassian features and third-party add-ons to determine their potential value to Rivian.
Qualifications
  • Experience: 5+ years of demonstrable experience as an Atlassian Administrator with deep hands-on expertise in managing and configuring Jira Software, Jira Service Management, and Confluence in an enterprise environment.
  • Project/Product Management Tooling: Strong experience in configuring Jira to effectively support project and product management methodologies, including workflow design, board configuration, and reporting.
  • Atlassian Add-on Expertise: Proven experience in supporting and configuring popular Atlassian add-ons relevant to project and product management, such as Structure, Assets, JXL Sheets, and potentially others used for requirements management or collaboration.
  • Integration Skills: Experience with configuring and troubleshooting integrations between Jira and other commonly used development and business tools (e.g., Slack, Git repositories, CI/CD tools).
  • Reporting and Analytics Proficiency: Strong ability to create and customize Jira dashboards and reports using JQL and potentially integrated reporting tools to provide meaningful insights to project and product teams.
  • Understanding of Development Lifecycles: Solid conceptual and practical understanding of various software development lifecycles (SDLC), including Agile (Scrum, Kanban), and how Jira can be leveraged to support them.
  • Technical Aptitude: Strong technical aptitude with a solid understanding of system administration concepts, permissions, and security within enterprise applications.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex issues within the Atlassian environment.
  • Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate technical information to both technical and non-technical1 audiences. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build rapport and collaborate effectively with diverse teams.
  • Training and Documentation Skills: Proven ability to create clear and concise technical documentation and deliver engaging training sessions.
  • Independence and Initiative: Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks effectively, and take initiative to drive improvements within the Atlassian platforms.
  • Adaptability: Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Atlassian Certifications: Relevant Atlassian certifications (e.g., ACP-Jira Admin, ACP-Confluence Admin, ACP-Project Management) are highly preferred.
  • Experience in a Manufacturing or Technology Company: Previous experience working in a fast-growing technology or manufacturing company is a plus.
  • All candidates must also be open to occasional travel (Approx 10-25%) as required for meetings, trainings or other business needs.
Pay Disclosure

Salary Range/Hourly Rate for California Based Applicants: $107,800 - $134,800 (actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location, and other factors permitted by law).

Full Time Employee coverage is effective on the first day of employment. Part-Time employee coverage is effective the first of the month following 90 days of employment.
