Beacon Hill Financial is collaboarting with a non-profit in the Silver Spring, MD area to bring a non-profit Sr. Accounting Manager to their team. This position is ideal for a proactive, hands-on leader who can effectively manage a team, ensure compliance with accounting principles and standards, and provide financial insights to support decision-making. The Senior Accounting Manager will report directly to the Director of Finance & Operations and collaborate closely with various departments to ensure sound financial management and reporting. Key Responsibilities:

  • Team Leadership & Management:

    • Supervise and mentor a team of accounting professionals, providing direction, coaching, and professional development.

    • Foster a collaborative and positive work environment that promotes accountability and continuous improvement.

    • Conduct performance evaluations, set clear expectations, and provide feedback to team members.

  • Accounting Operations:

    • Oversee the preparation and maintenance of financial statements, ensuring compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and non-profit financial reporting standards.

    • Manage month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring all financial transactions are accurately recorded and completed on time.

    • Ensure proper allocation of expenses and income according to funders' restrictions, grant agreements, and donor requirements.

  • Financial Reporting & Analysis:

    • Prepare detailed and accurate financial reports for internal and external stakeholders, including board members, funders, and auditors.

    • Analyze financial data and trends, providing insights and recommendations to senior leadership for budget planning and resource allocation.

    • Assist in the preparation of the annual budget and forecast, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and funding sources.

  • Internal Controls & Compliance:

    • Maintain and enforce strong internal controls to safeguard organizational assets and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.

    • Monitor and ensure compliance with donor restrictions, grant conditions, and tax laws that impact non-profit accounting practices.

    • Manage and oversee the audit process, coordinating with external auditors and preparing necessary documentation.

  • Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement:

    • Work closely with program managers and other departments to provide financial oversight and guidance on budgeting and financial management.

    • Collaborate with the Director of Finance & Operations to develop financial strategies that support the organization's mission and long-term sustainability.
