Position Summary: The Speech Language Pathologist evaluates, diagnoses, and treats speech, language, cognitive-communication, and swallowing disorders in patients of all ages with varying acuity levels.
SHIFT: This position requires working weekdays and one weekend a month, servicing inpatient and acute care.
Responsibilities
Essential Functions:
- Evaluates patients, gathering data from the patient, physician, interdisciplinary team meetings (if available), family, significant others, and other data sources.
- Develops treatment plans that integrate with the continuum of care, with specific goals and objectives. Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care.
- Assesses data reflective of the patient's status and interprets information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to their age-specific needs, providing the necessary care as per departmental policies and procedures.
- Demonstrates competency in the use, care, and maintenance of profession-specific equipment, observing safety precautions, and providing verbal explanations of the equipment and its purpose.
- Re-evaluates and modifies treatment plans and goals when appropriate, and prepares written documentation as required.
- Recognizes and communicates when the patient has received optimal benefit from speech therapy.
- Ensures accurate billing.
- Adheres to State Practice Act and Standards of Practice.
- Maintains regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA, and other standards.
- Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
Other Related Functions:
- Participates in Performance Improvement, program development, student supervision, committees, safety, and infection control as required.
- Demonstrates awareness of legal issues, patient rights, and compliance with regulatory and accrediting agencies.
- Attends rehabilitation meetings, in-services, and patient care meetings as required.
- Practices efficient use and selection of supplies and equipment. Instructs support personnel as necessary.
Qualifications
Education/Training: Master's degree in speech/language pathology from an approved program.
Licensure/Certification:
- Certificate of Clinical Competence or active engagement in the Clinical Fellowship Year requirements.
- Maintains current Speech Language Pathologist license in the State of Alabama (provisional license acceptable).
