Your Role as a Part-Time Speech Therapist - Provide Classroom Support: Assist teachers in implementing therapy activities within the classroom setting. Offer strategies to support students' speech and language development during lessons.
- Monitor & Track Student Progress: Regularly assess student performance and collect data on treatment effectiveness. Adjust therapy plans based on the ongoing progress of each student.
- Support Self-Help Skills: Encourage students to use communication skills in daily tasks. Provide guidance on developing independence in speech and language-related activities.
- Ensure a Safe Learning Environment: Implement behavior management strategies to create a calm and focused atmosphere. Address any disruptive behaviors promptly to maintain a positive learning space.
- Collaborate with Teachers & Families: Engage with teachers to align therapy goals with classroom instruction. Communicate regularly with families to update them on progress and involve them in the treatment process.
Required Qualifications: - Master's degree in Speech and Language Pathology
- Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) through ASHA (preferred)
- Valid Connecticut state and school licensure or eligible for license to practice in the state of Connecticut (061 - Speech and Language Pathologist)
- Minimum 3 years experience within a school-setting, with special education student populations with language-based learning differences
- Familiar with the IEP process and the collection of progress monitoring data
- Create and maintain an orderly and aesthetic learning environment that accounts for students social, emotional, and executive functioning need
- Commitment to helping children of all abilities reach their full potential
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and a collaborative, enthusiastic style to fit with our small-team environment
Preferred (Nice to Have) Qualifications: - Previous experience working in a school setting, ideally as an SLP.
- Excellent communication skills, with a collaborative, team-oriented approach.
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine commitment to supporting students, especially those with special needs.
