- Comply with all bio-security policies and procedures of Valo BioMedia North America, LLC.
- Compliance with and enforcement of all Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) as detailed by Valo BioMedia North America, LLC.
- Implementation of all flock husbandry programs such as blood sampling, environmental swabbing, egg collection and grading, house cleaning and maintenance and all husbandry functions following the appropriate SOPs.
- Monitor and report fly and beetle population to the Farm Manager and apply pesticides as directed by Management.
- Clean and disinfect equipment, entry, lab, bath, cooler and mechanical rooms as detailed in the appropriate standard operating procedures and scheduled and directed by the Farm Manager and/or Assistant Farm manager.
- Monitor all mechanical systems (air, feed, water, water disinfection, egg collection equipment), as per the appropriate SOP's, making sure that the flock has feed, water, the correct positive pressure and light intensity to maximize performance. Notify management immediately of any variation from norm as per appropriate SOPs.
- Properly collect and dispose of all daily mortality and reject eggs notifying management of unusual bird behavior and/or elevated death loss immediately.
- Assist with the housing of new birds and the depopulation of the old flock as scheduled by the Farm Manager. Conduct loadout of pullets when necessary.
- Maintain the facility in a clean bio-secure condition following the prescribed procedures and disinfectants as detailed in the Standard Operating Procedures.
- All other activities that may be necessary for the successful operation of the Farm and Valo BioMedia North America, LLC.
Job Qualifications
- Ability to adhere to strict bio-security rules as disinfection and frequent showering are mandatory for entering and exiting onto farms.
- Must not be in any contact with any kind of birds, reptiles, rodents, and swine during employment.
- No contact with any kind of bird species including but not limited to pet birds, any kind of fowl as chickens, geese, ducks, quails, pheasants, guineafowl, ostrich, emu, as well as parrots and all other birds during employment.
- Must be able to do hands on work with live poultry such as transfers, depletions, placements, and others.
- Must have good oral and written communication skills.
- Must be detail-oriented and possess good record-keeping skills.
- Ability to multi-task and be self-motivated to work.
- Must have knowledge in the use of handheld data collection technology such as tablets and smartphones
- Experience operating farm equipment such as loaders, forklifts, farm packers and trucks is preferred but not required.
- Must be able to identify and implement treatment for both flock and individual bird health issues.
- Ability to work up to 7 days a week, including weekends and holidays.
- Ability to perform essential duties in a bio secure, safe, and efficient manner.
- Ability to safely work with hazardous chemicals such as detergents, disinfectants, and others
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States or possess the ability to gain such authorization.
- Must pass a background check and drug screen prior to employment.
- Must have driver's license and be in good standing with the DOT.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to perform work that is repetitive in nature and involves frequent standing, bending, twisting, and hand/wrist dexterity.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and/or pull up to 25lbs repetitively, on occasion could lift 50lbs or more.
- Job requires both inside and outside work year-round with live animals, so candidate must be able to work in hot temperatures, cold temperatures (snow, sleet, ice), dry and dusty conditions, damp or wet conditions, conditions with farm related smells or foul odors, and sometimes loud/noisy environments.
Position Type/Hours of Work
- This is a full-time position.
- Expectation is to work 6 days a week. Shifts start in the early morning hours, and you are done when the work is completed. Usually 68-hour shifts.
- Any hours worked on the weekend are guaranteed OT hours.
