General Purpose

We are excited to announce an opportunity for a Specialty Fitness Instructor to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess a passion for fitness and a desire to create an inclusive and supportive environment for our community members.

As a Specialty Fitness Instructor, you will lead safe, effective, and enjoyable specialty group fitness classes, while providing in-depth instruction on proper form and technique. You will follow appropriate class format guidelines and modify classes to meet a variety of fitness levels. Additionally, you will be responsible for supervising participants, creating a supportive exercise environment, and continuing to develop your skills and knowledge.
Hiring salary is dependent upon experience.

The hiring range for the Specialty Fitness Instructor I is $25.64 - $28.53 per hour.

The hiring range for the Specialty Fitness Instructor II is $28.76 - $31.81 per hour.

The hiring range for the Specialty Fitness Instructor III is $31.87 - $35.06 per hour.

The hiring range for the Specialty Fitness Instructor IV is $34.99 - $38.26 per hour.

Minimum Qualifications
Must be a minimum of 18 years of age. Previous experience a plus, but not required. Spanish/English bilingual preferred but not required. Must hold current CPR and AED certifications or the ability to obtain within 6 months of hire. Ability to demonstrate competent technical instructor skills.
Specialty Fitness Instructor I:

All of the above plus:

• National primary group exercise certification-AFAA or ACE preferred, but others accepted as deemed appropriate

• Completed Specialty Fitness Instructor II:

All of the above plus:

• Completed 70-
• Less than 1 year teaching experience
Specialty Fitness Instructor III:

All of the above plus:

• Completed 200+ hours of training/certification from reputable organization (as deemed appropriate by Coordinator of Fitness and Wellness) for specialty certifications such as Yoga, Pilates or Tai Chi

• 1-5 years teaching experience
Specialty Fitness Instructor IV:

All of the above plus:

• Completed 200+ hours of training/certification from reputable organization (as deemed appropriate by Coordinator of Fitness and Wellness) for specialty certifications such as Yoga, Pilates or Tai Chi

• Bachelor's Degree in Exercise Science or related field AND/OR 5+ years teaching experience

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Must have high knowledge of exercise science, nutrition and wellness

• Must be able to exhibit excellent technical skills to instruct group fitness classes

• Must be highly motivated and take direction well

• Must be able to use independent judgment while applying general organizational policies and values

• Must be able to adapt to varied customer service, equipment and work environment situations

• Must be willing to work a varied work schedule which may include evenings, weekends and holidays

• Must have no physical limitations regarding the lifting of items up to 25 pounds to assist participants with gathering appropriate equipment for class participation

Recreation Center Membership: Employees are eligible for a membership to the Commerce City Recreation Center for $5.00 per year.

Golf Course Green Fees: Employees can play the City's award-winning Buffalo Run Golf Course at a rate of $9.00 for 9-holes or $18.00 for 18-holes. Employees can also purchase golf merchandise at discounted prices.

Benefits: The city monitors the hours worked for seasonal and variable hour employees. In the event that they work more than 1,560 hours within the ACA measurement period, they will be offered health benefits.

Wellness: Employees are eligible to earn up to $100 for participation in various wellness activities offered by the City throughout the year.

Eligibility for Pay Increases: Employees are eligible for a pay increase around the time of their annual appraisal following a successful evaluation.
