Specialist Pharmacist - Intensive Care and Surgery

Job summary
We are seeking two patient-focused pharmacists to build on established clinical skills and work closely with clinicians to provide high-quality care within ESHT. The role requires a commitment to personal and staff development. These specialist pharmacist positions are based within the Diagnostics, Anaesthetics and Surgery (DAS) Division and involve supporting the Lead Divisional Pharmacist in delivering clinical pharmacy and business support within East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidates will work in a portfolio role within the Diagnostics, Anaesthetics and Surgery (DAS) Division. Under supervision, they will collaborate with consultants, medical staff, nurses, pharmacy staff, and other healthcare professionals to ensure safe, effective, and evidence-based medication use across ESHT. Responsibilities include providing clinical pharmacy services to Surgery/ITU inpatient wards, supporting dispensary activities, and participating in education and training initiatives. The role also involves training and mentoring pre-registration pharmacists, pharmacy undergraduates, and rotational clinical pharmacists. Candidates will be expected to join the department's weekend and on-call rota after orientation and induction.

Person Specification Qualifications
- BSc (Pharmacy) / BPharm / MPharm
- GPhC Registration with a Vocational Master's degree in Pharmacy (4 years) and 1 year of pre-registration training and experience
- CPD portfolio demonstrating ongoing professional development
- Certificate in Clinical Pharmacy or equivalent
- Training in change management
Experience
- Post-registration experience as a clinical pharmacist in the NHS sector
- Experience with healthcare IT systems, including data entry and report generation
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
- Experience working with clinicians as a clinical pharmacist
- Experience mentoring and training pharmacy staff
- HEELaSE Practice Supervisor course or equivalent
Skills
- Understanding of the role and responsibilities outlined in the job description
- Knowledge of current pharmacy practice, NHS policies, and targets
- Ability to plan, prioritize, organize workload, work under pressure, and work autonomously
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to analyze and interpret data

Salary: £46,148 to £52,809 per annum, pro-rata
