GAINESVILLE CITY SCHOOLSSPECIAL EDUCATION PARAPROFESSIONALPosition DescriptionThe Gainesville City School System does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age or disability in any of its employment practices, educational programs, services or activities.WORK LOCATION: School BasedFLSA STATUS: Non-ExemptREPORTS TOPrincipal & Director of Special EducationWORK CALENDAR: 190 DaysSALARY SCHEDULE: APPROVED (Board): PAY GRADE: REVISED: February 2020 SUMMARY: Under the general supervision of the Principal and Director of Special Education.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSDUTIES1.Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance.2.Attends in-service activities as required/needed.3.Conducts small group or individual classroom activities based on lesson plans developed by the general education or special education teacher.4.Assists the teacher with supervision of students, which may include lifting of students in wheelchairs, and assistance with activities of daily living such as toileting and feeding.5.Assists the teacher with student assessment, grading work and tests, and collecting data on student progress.6.Assists the teacher with routine record keeping.7.Assists the teacher with the preparation of materials for instruction (including the copying/duplicating of materials, construction of displays/bulletin boards, learning centers and manipulatives).8.Locates, operates and returns needed equipment.9.Assists the teacher with classroom housekeeping.10.Assists the teacher in the ordering and inventory of classroom equipment and materials.11.Assists the teacher with school-wide supervision, such as loading/unloading buses.12.Assists the teacher with medical procedures and/or physical therapy, and/or occupational therapy for students.13.Maintains student confidentiality.14.Implements accommodations and behavioral strategies identified on IEP's.15.Provide therapeutic physical restraint when identified on IEP. (Note: Paraprofessional must be certified in an evidence-based de-escalation and therapeutic physical restraint model).16.Cooperates with administrators, teachers, and school staff.17.Follows practices consistent with school and system policies in working with students.18.Complies with school, system, and state administrative regulations and policies.19.Performs other duties as assigned.QUALIFICATIONS: - High School Diploma or GED AND
- Valid Georgia Paraprofessional Certificate (GACE Paraprofessional Assessment)
- OR 60 college credit hours
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Medium Work:
Occasionally lifting up to 50 pounds, and/or moving 10-25 pounds frequently.
Heavy Work:
Occasionally lifting up to 75 pounds, and/or frequently moving 25-50 pounds, and/or constantly moving 10-20 pounds.REQUIRED DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:Employee must be able to satisfactorily perform each essential function of the position.
