REQUIRED:

Must have a High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) required in English (can submit a High School Transcript) and MEET ONE of the following Options:

Option 1
  • Forty-eight (48) university, college and/or vocational level hours with core subjects from an accredited institution of higher education and/or
  • Associate's (or higher) Official Transcript/Diploma (required in English)
  • Student Academic Record/View NOT VALID Must be an Official Transcript
  • Have experience working with students or parents as approved by the employing superintendent. Experience may be work in church-related schools, day camps, youth groups, private schools, licensed daycare centers, or similar experience

Option 2

A Current Full-Time Brownsville ISD employee with a Valid Educational Aide Certification and High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) required in English and have met a rigorous standard quality and can demonstrate, through a formal state or local assessment knowledge and ability to assist in instruction (TOPS training).

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assists in upholding and enforcing school rules, administration regulations, and state and local board policy. Assists the teacher with planning, preparing and developing various instructional materials and engineering the classroom/campus while considering factors such as individual needs, abilities, learning levels, and physical limitations of students. Helps the teacher with management of behavior of students. This includes intervening in crisis situations and restraining disruptive or dangerous student behavior as needed. Assists the teacher with the arrangement and adjustment of tools, work aids, and equipment used by students in the classroom such as specially equipped worktables, computers, typewriters, and mechanized page-turners. Assists the teacher with the presentation of subject matter to students, individually or in groups using a variety of methods and techniques to develop motor skills and conducts instructional exercises. Assumes responsibility for learning and adapting to each student's special medical, physical, communicative, sensory, social and emotional needs. Assists students with physical needs and personal care, including feeding, bathroom needs and personal hygiene. Assists the teacher in maintaining a neat and orderly classroom. Assists the teacher in keeping administrative records and preparing required reports. Help supervise students throughout the school day, inside and outside the classroom/campus. This includes lunchroom, bus, playground duty, and community based instructional settings. Keeps the teacher informed of any special needs or problems of individual students. Attends support classes with students, if needed (i.e., APE, Music). Participates in special events as assigned. Provides orientation and assistance to substitute teachers as per teacher's daily lesson plan. Follows established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties. Maintains confidentiality. Maintains a high level of ethical behavior as is expected of all District employees. Maintains professional growth by attending in-services and meetings as requested/required. Performs other related duties assigned by the teacher or principal.
