Job Title: Solution Architect - IIoT (Industrial Internet of Things)

Location: Remote (CST Time Zone Preferred) with Potential Monthly Travel to Wisconsin
Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced IIoT Solution Architect to lead the strategic planning, architecture design, and governance of IIoT initiatives across manufacturing operations. This role will play a critical part in integrating IIoT systems with MES, cloud platforms, and enterprise applications to drive data-driven automation, predictive maintenance, and operational intelligence.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategy & Roadmap Development
- Define and lead long-term IIoT strategy aligned with enterprise digital transformation goals.
- Create and maintain phased roadmaps that demonstrate clear business value.
- Develop KPIs to measure initiative success and drive continuous improvement.
Standards & Governance
- Establish standards for IIoT connectivity, data security, device management, and regulatory compliance.
- Ensure alignment with frameworks such as NIST, ISA-95, and IEC 62443.
Data Architecture & Analytics
- Design and implement scalable, cloud-native data architectures using Azure and real-time processing tools.
- Enable integration of AI/ML models for predictive maintenance, anomaly detection, and autonomous decision-making.
Predictive & Autonomous Manufacturing
- Utilize IIoT technologies to drive condition-based maintenance and real-time production optimization.
- Implement intelligent automation strategies across the manufacturing lifecycle.
Cross-Functional Leadership
- Collaborate closely with stakeholders across IT, OT, operations, and data science teams.
- Guide vendor selection and management.
- Advise leadership on IIoT maturity assessments and ROI evaluations.
Security & Compliance
- Implement robust security frameworks and access controls across OT and IT environments.
- Promote secure device lifecycle management and maintain compliance with industry standards.
Required Experience & Skills:
IIoT & Industrial Connectivity
- Deep understanding of IIoT architectures including edge computing, sensor networks, and industrial protocols (OPC UA, MQTT, Modbus).
- Proven experience in connected factory environments with real-time process visibility.
- Familiarity with OT systems, including PLCs, tag data, historians, and HMIs.
- Bonus: Experience with platforms like Aveva and Inductive Automation (Ignition).
Cloud & Big Data
- Proficiency in Microsoft Azure (Azure IoT Suite, Data Factory, Synapse), Kafka, and real-time streaming/analytics.
- Experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) is a plus.
AI/ML Integration
- Practical experience implementing predictive models using tools such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or Azure ML.
Cybersecurity
- Strong knowledge of ISA/IEC 62443, NIST Cybersecurity Framework, and the Purdue model.
- Ability to architect secure, converged OT/IT environments.
