Job Title: Software Engineering Manager

FLSA Status: Exempt

Work Hours: Full Time, Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm

Work Location: Hybrid, Remote or onsite in San Diego, CA

Reports to: Director of Software Engineering

Compensation: $170-195k

Summary

The Software Engineering Manager will provide coaching and technical leadership to 6-10 engineers across 2-3 software delivery teams. You will be responsible for staffing teams to meet delivery objectives, supporting the professional growth of direct reports, and ensuring the teams have the resources and capacity to meet business goals.


Essential Duties

  • Manage performance of direct reports, including hiring, onboarding, 1:1s, annual assessments, and recommending compensation changes
  • Regularly gather and report key performance metrics and KPIs
  • Support direct reports' professional and personal growth goals
  • Collaborate with managers, stakeholders, and contractors
  • Participate in daily technical operations (standups, sprint planning, retrospectives)
  • Identify process and tooling gaps and recommend improvements to senior engineering leadership
  • Occasionally write and maintain code in various programming languages
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Responsibilities

  • Foster psychological safety and adaptability within teams
  • Support the professional development of direct reports
  • Ensure policies and procedures are followed
  • Resolve technical and interpersonal conflicts within and across teams

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

  • Minimum 5+ years' experience with modern programming languages/frameworks
  • Minimum 2+ years' experience managing the work of at least 2 individual contributors
  • High emotional intelligence with the ability to empathize, negotiate, and actively listen
  • Strong communication, organizational skills, and attention to detail

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

  • Experience in the financial services or fintech space
  • Proficiency with .NET Core, MySQL, Vue.js, NodeJS
  • Familiarity with DevOps tools such as Docker, CloudFormation, Terraform, Puppet, Chef
