Job Title:
Software Engineer (Defense Industry)
Type of Position:
6-month contract position to start. Possible for extension, long term likely for direct hire.
Candidate Requirements:
This role is ONLY open to US Citizens. Permanent Residents (Green Card Holders) and any other work authorizations are NOT permitted here as this role requires eligibility to obtain a secret clearance (a secret clearance is only open to US Citizens). Due to the nature of this role (working for a defense contractor tied to the federal government) - candidates may need to pass a drug screen (which would include cannabis). There would be no exceptions to this (eg: a medical card).
Job Location:
New Hudson, MI (hybrid role).
Compensation:
We are generally seeking $48.00/hr to $55.00/hr (depending on experience). There may be some additional flexibility for well qualified candidates.

• This role will have 7 paid holidays and 10 days PTO (accrual)

Job Description:
We're seeking a qualified Software Engineer to join our team, supporting a variety of projects across the defense industry. This position will contribute to the development of software solutions, working in a collaborative team environment to deliver high-quality products throughout the full product lifecycle. The Software Engineer will collaborate closely with engineering and manufacturing teams, as well as with external partners, to ensure successful delivery of software solutions in defense engineering projects. A successful candidate will be a self-starter with strong technical expertise and a focus on continuous improvement.
Essential Functions & Skills:
• Implement, verify, and deliver software solutions individually or as part of a team.
• Collaborate with project teams to support software solutions across defense initiatives.
• Maintain adherence to process, patterns, practices, and technologies for delivering solutions.
• Assist in identifying the technology and skills needed for solution delivery.
• Provide expertise in solution architecture and design.
• Participate in requirements gathering sessions with stakeholders to provide insights into potential solutions.
• Stay up to date on the latest technologies, tools, and methodologies to inform solution development.
• Work effectively with both internal and external teams, including remote partners.
• Participate in and support the execution of code reviews, design reviews, and product requirement discussions.
• Use agile methodologies to manage workflows and improve team productivity.
• Demonstrate strong problem-solving abilities, tackling challenges with minimal guidance and demonstrating an entrepreneurial mindset.
Education / Experience Requirements:
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field. Advanced degree preferred.
• Minimum of 5+ years of experience in software engineering or a related field.
• Familiarity with Agile frameworks and working in engineering prototype environments.
• Experience with programming languages such as Python, C , Java, and .NET.
• Strong knowledge of software engineering practices, including CI/CD, unit testing, and version control.
Desired Specialized Skills & Knowledge:
• Experience in the defense or aerospace industry is a plus but not required.
• Knowledge of defense-specific requirements and experience with DoD projects is a plus.
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and simulation tools is a plus.
• Experience with different network architectures is a plus.
Work Environment, Other Info:
• 1st (day) shift position. This role will generally work Monday to Friday with infrequent night/weekend work to achieve deadlines.
• This will be a hybrid role (generally 2 to 3 days working from the office, 2 to 3 days working from home).
• There may be minimal local travel on a rare occasion (5% or less).
• Any offer may be contingent on passing a background check and drug screen (drug screen would include Cannabis - no exceptions, eg: for a medical card).
