Software Engineer (C , Python, C , React, AppleScript, Generative AI, RAG, and AR/VR devices)Description/Responsibilities: Within the company's Production Innovation Team, you will join a group of creative and production technologists dedicated to providing innovative solutions to the dynamic challenges within the television industry. In collaboration with the Production Technology Team and the Production Innovation Team, you will contribute to the Disney Entertainment Television Production Innovation Lab in Burbank. This space is dedicated to showcasing the latest technologies shaping episodic television. Our ideal candidate has experience working with machine learning and genAI systems, and familiarity with developing and packaging visual and audio materials for demo presentation
The Production Innovation Lab Engineer will help the Production Innovation department integrate the hardware, AI systems, and demo A/V materials seamlessly across the lab environment. The Lab Engineer will help facilitate quality control and packaging of the demonstration materials as needed and will have a key role in the launch of the Production Innovation Lab.
This position will have a core role in the implementation and execution of our Lab, a hands-on showroom demonstrating the latest in production technology innovation. This person will report to the Manager, Production innovation.
The Innovation Lab "innovation stations" demo technologies that span the entire episodic television pipeline; from development to pre-production, production, post, and visual effects. The systems showcased are a variety of technical formats, including AR/VR workflows, web-based systems, cloud-based systems, and may require customizing of fully configured applications and coding as necessary (potentially compiling open-source code as well as providing custom code). The lab will showcase third-party applications potentially along with internal technologies and will include a mix of technologies that are hardware and software based.
Responsibilities: Collaborate with Production Innovation department to confirm quality of demonstration A/V materials as they are received; confirming file formats, system inputs and outputs, and assess the scope of additional work needed to package show-ready deliverables.
Build technology demos around cutting-edge production tools, both 3rd party and proprietary.
Collaboration with Disney and vendor partners as necessary.
Supplemental preparation, coding, and/or configuration of AI-powered tools & pipelines as required for the packaging of demo materials.
Oversee the software, hardware, and demo functionality through the testing and demo phase in the weeks preceding Innovation Lab opening (estimated June 1st, 2025) and troubleshoot any technological issues that arise.
Maintain robust functionality of demos through daily operation and upgrades.
Document implementation of tools and systems for Production Innovation Department to refer to as necessary.
Explore new technologies and recommend intuitive, self-service ways to showcase core functionality/innovations.
Qualifications • 3-5 years of experience as a Software Engineer, ideally working on interactive toolsets, such as those used in museum exhibits, attractions, or showrooms.
• Versatile developer, proficient across a variety of languages/frameworks (C , Python, C , React, AppleScript, etc).
• Familiarity with and able to author plugins for standard filmmaking applications (Maya, Houdini, Nuke, Avid, Premiere, etc).
• Experience with game engines (Unity, Unreal).
• Comfortable interfacing with specialty hardware, such as AR/VR devices, touch screens, microcontrollers, etc.
• Ability to code on and automate within a variety of operating systems (Windows, Mac, Linux).
• Good sense of UX and human interface design.
• Familiarity with Generative AI, AI-driven workflows, leveraging LLMs, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), prompt engineering, and automation frameworks.
• Understanding of machine learning algorithms and their tradeoffs, including model selection and optimization techniques.
• Basic proficiency with machine learning library capabilities, including data ingestion, feature engineering, model training, evaluation, and prediction.
