About the team and the role: eBay, Inc. seeks Software Engineer 3 in San Jose, CA

What you will accomplish: Write high-quality, high performance, and maintainable back-end software code while focusing on scalability, security, cross-browser compatibility, web standards, interoperability, and accessibility. Estimate software engineering efforts, prioritize projects, plan implementations, and triage production issues. Build new experiences, improve existing products, and develop distributed software systems powering the world's largest e-commerce websites at a scale few companies can match. Evaluate user needs and desires and translate those into viable software designs and products. Aggregate information from various places and build relationships with key stakeholders to get the information needed for software development. Master tools and expand systems knowledge through formal or informal research and training. Evaluate software design, know what users are looking for, and know how to bring that to life. Build performance efficient, highly scalable, configurable, and available software applications and systems. Define, design, and implement complex, multi-tier distributed software applications. Design, develop, and test high throughput back-end software systems. Develop object-oriented software and design, code, and test complex software features. Develop software code and lead code review sessions. Identify and fix performance, scalability, and other software issues in a very time critical environment. Identify and make recommendations to reduce software project risks. Work with other engineers, managers, product management, quality analysts, and operations teams to develop innovative technical solutions that meet market needs with respect to functionality, performance, availability, scalability, reliability, realistic implementation schedules, and adherence to software development goals and principles. Full-time telecommuting permitted from anywhere within the U.S.

What you will bring:

Minimum Requirements: Master's degree, or foreign equivalent, in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a closely related field plus one year of experience in the job offered or a related occupation. Employer will accept a Bachelor's degree, or foreign equivalent, in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a closely related field plus two years of progressively responsible experience in the job offered or a related occupation.

Special Skill Requirements:

1 year of experience in each of the following:

- Designing and developing large-scale software applications using Object-Oriented Design and Java.

- Identify and fix performance, scalability, and other software issues in a very time critical environment.

- Write high-quality, high performance, and maintainable back-end software code while focusing on scalability, security, cross-browser compatibility, web standards, interoperability, and accessibility.

- Evaluate user needs and desires and translate those into viable software designs and products.

- Experience with build and deployment tools such as Maven, Gradle, and Jenkins.

- Experience with version control systems like Git.

Any amount of experience in each of the following:

- Developing software code and leading code review sessions.

- RESTful API development and integration.

- NoSQL databases like MongoDB or Cassandra.

- Developing object-oriented software and designing, coding, and testing complex software features.

Salary: $172 850.00 per annum. 40 hours per week; M-F, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.

Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including location, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a target bonus and restricted stock units (as applicable) in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as PTO and parental leave). Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
