Position Overview:
A respected outpatient substance use treatment center is seeking a Licensed Social Worker (LMSW, LMHC, LMFT, or CASAC) to join its interdisciplinary clinical team. This clinic provides medication-assisted treatment (MAT), individual and group therapy, and comprehensive recovery services for adults experiencing substance use disorders.
Licensed Social Worker - Outpatient Recovery Clinic
Schedule: Monday-Friday 10:00 AM-6:00 PM
Location: Clinic-based Western Suffolk County
This role will support a diverse caseload, providing evidence-based therapy, conducting assessments, managing documentation, and supporting clients through their recovery journey. Licensed candidates who are early-career or seeking supervision hours are encouraged to apply - clinical supervision is provided for LMSWs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Direct Care & Clinical Services
- Manage a caseload of clients receiving individual, family, and/or group therapy
- Conduct psychosocial assessments and complete admission documentation
- Facilitate substance use recovery-focused group therapy based on population needs
- Provide crisis interventions and safety planning as necessary
- Conduct urine drug screenings, oral toxicology, and breathalyzer testing when needed
- Coordinate treatment with internal medical and psychiatric team
- Documentation & Compliance
- Complete all required clinical documentation within 48 hours, including:
- Progress notes
- Service plans and reviews
- Admission and discharge documents (PAS forms)
- Risk assessments (C-SSRS, suicide/violence risk, tobacco, etc.)
- Intake forms and consent documentation for reporting agencies, RHIOs, and collateral contacts
- Maintain accurate logs for clinic referrals and intake completions
- Ensure compliance with all OASAS regulations and clinic protocols
- Collaboration & Team Support
- Participate in weekly staff meetings, clinical supervision, and case conferences
- Maintain contact with mandated reporting sources (e.g., CPS, DSS, courts)
- Collaborate with case management staff and external community support services
- Maintain timely communication with medical staff (RN, Psychiatrist) regarding client progress
- Support a recovery-oriented clinic environment
Qualifications:
- Active NYS licensure: LMSW, LMHC, LMFT, or CASAC (required)
- At least 1 year of clinical experience in substance use or behavioral health settings (flexibility for licensed new grads)
- Supervision hours available for LMSWs seeking LCSW track
- Knowledge of CBT, MI, harm reduction, or other evidence-based modalities strongly preferred
- Familiarity with OASAS clinic requirements and EHR systems (e.g., DocuMed)
- Valid NY State Driver License required
- Must pass fingerprinting, background check, and NYS Office of Mental Health approval
Preferred Skills & Competencies:
- Familiarity with OASAS documentation standards
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to conduct therapy in various formats (1:1, group, family)
- Understanding of community resources for referrals and client support
- Tech-savvy and comfortable with clinic IT systems
