Job Summary

The Social Media Manager and Coordinator is responsible for managing the digital presence and supporting the public appearances of the University of Utah's iconic mascot, Swoop. This role combines creative content development, campaign planning, and event coordination to maximize Swoop's impact on campus and in the community. The ideal candidate is a strong communicator, creative thinker, and team player with a passion for fan engagement and digital storytelling.

An ideal candidate would start this summer.

Responsibilities

Social Media Management
  • Develop and implement content strategies across Instagram, TikTok, and other platforms.
  • Create and schedule photo, video, and written content that reflects Swoop's voice and personality.
  • Monitor analytics and prepare monthly performance reports with insights and recommendations.
  • Stay up to date on social media trends and platform updates to maintain relevance and engagement.
  • Respond to fan interactions with enthusiasm, humor, and professionalism.
  • Occasionally assist with additional social media content creation for sister departments within Auxiliary Services as assigned.
Content Creation
  • Capture and edit high-quality photos and videos at events and behind the scenes.
  • Collaborate with the Swoop team and other university departments to coordinate content opportunities.
  • Brainstorm creative campaigns and series to enhance Swoop's visibility and campus culture.
Event Support & Fan Engagement
  • Attend Swoop appearances and events to support the mascot team and facilitate fan interactions.
  • Provide on-site content coverage and help ensure smooth fan-facing experiences.
  • Assist with setup, breakdown, and behind-the-scenes logistics as needed.
Appearance Scheduling Coordination
  • Help coordinate and manage the Swoop appearance calendar.
  • Communicate with campus departments, partners, and event leads to confirm appearance details.
  • Track and organize requests to ensure Swoop is scheduled efficiently and appropriately.
Minimum Qualifications

Must be a current University of Utah student.

Preferences
  • Strong experience with social media platforms, content creation, and scheduling tools.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Experience in photography/videography and basic editing tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Express, CapCut, or similar).
  • Energetic and outgoing personality with the ability to engage fans of all ages.
  • Reliable, flexible, and comfortable working both independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to attend campus events, including some evenings and weekends.
  • Clean driving record.
