JOB SUMMARY The role of the Small Group Personal Trainer is to lead our clients through Small Group workouts for 30 and 45-minute sessions. The Trainer needs to be a highly motivated individual, have strong leadership skills, and be an effective fitness coach. The ideal candidate is very motivated by their education and is always furthering their knowledge of the fitness industry. This position calls for an individual with a contagious and positive personality, who views customer service above everything else.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS - Client Management- Lead Small Group Sessions (up to 8 clients/session).
- Build Workouts for Clients.
- Motivate and collaborate with people of all abilities, ages, opinions, and backgrounds to ensure a positive experience that meets their unique needs.
- Must be engaging and highly energetic.
- Have a passion for fitness and helping clients reach their goals.
- Build collaborative relationships with clients.
- Instruct participants on proper form and safety.
- Enforce prescribed safety procedures and rules of good behavior and courtesy within the class.
- Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor with coworkers and patrons. Make class participants feel welcome, safe and engaged.
- Actively participate in required staff trainings and meetings. Maintain required certifications.
- Brand Ambassador- Exemplify what it means to be a YMCA team member by working every day to better themselves and those around you.
- Personal Development- Work toward fulfilling quarterly CEU requirements through educational development programs.
- Act according to facility protocol to ensure safety of all staff and children which includes:
- Adhere to policies related to boundaries with staff and children.
- Attend required abuse risk management training.
- Report suspicious and inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.
- Follow mandated abuse reporting requirements.
SKILLS AND TRAINING - A current personal training or related certification accredited through the NCCA (National Commissions for Certifying Agencies) is required. Must maintain required CEC's and certifications throughout employment.
- CPR/First Aid certifications are required within the first 60 days of employment.
- High School Diploma (or equivalent) is required, Post-secondary education preferred.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS - Due to the instructional nature of the position the Trainer must actively lead and demonstrate all the exercises associated with the class. This will require significant use of hands, arms, and body for 30-45 minutes at various degrees of physical assertion, as well as the ability to lift up to 20 pounds (depending on the class) to set up and put away equipment.
- Must be able to speak clearly and project your voice while performing physical exercises.
- Occasional local travel between centers and/or other locations within the community may be required.

- Communication: Explaining and educating in a way that people with less technical knowledge understand, and motivating behavioral change is essential. Pay Range: $20 - $35 per hour
