BASIC FUNCTION:

This position performs a full range of professional duties to design and implement simulation education curriculum within a collaborative practice framework. This position provides technical, clinical, creativity and educational support for all simulation courses and operations in the Center to ensure the goals and objectives and the mission of the Center are achieved. This person must have comprehensive knowledge of the technology, simulators, laboratory regulations, and audiovisual systems within the Center's purview. This person performs assigned work safely, adhering to established departmental safety rules and practices, report to supervisor in a timely manner, any unsafe activities, conditions, hazards, or safety violations that may cause injury to oneself, other employees, learners, faculty, or visitors. This position may have to work nights and weekends periodically to support simulation courses after standard hours. Incumbent in this position must be able to lift up to 75 lbs.

Simulation Course Responsibilities
  • Maintain and increase awareness and effectiveness of simulator-based education.
  • Works with the entire team to ensure the simulation scenarios and environment are realistic and adhere to education pedagogy and simulation standards of best practice.
  • Assist in the design implementation and presentation of specialized simulation training.
  • Assist learners and faculty with preparing for and conducting simulation-based learning experiences.
  • Provides pre-briefing for all simulation courses to provide the case stem and to explains to learners the use of patient care simulators, related media, and computer equipment that will be used during the simulation scenario.
  • Assist faculty with debriefing learners following a simulation scenario session.
  • Identify implement and manage hardware software and multimedia resources to support the simulation center.
  • Maintain equipment and systems including trouble-shooting equipment updating operating systems troubleshooting equipment and resolving system problems with the manufacturer.
  • Responsible for all set up, transition and break down for all sessions daily.
  • Create and apply moulage needed for scenarios and courses
  • Program simulators to scenario author/instructor specifications
  • Operate technology (simulators, audio visual, etc.) in real-time.
  • Support / assist in role-playing application and props placement to create a virtual healthcare setting.
  • Assist in preparation and maintenance of technical checklists for all simulation scenarios.

Clinical Procedural and Technical Skills Course Responsibilities
  • Provide laboratory orientation to all learners and faculty
  • Responsible for all set up, transition and break down for all sessions daily.
  • Maintain the highest standards for a sterile environment by utilizing standard protocol.
  • Management of all animal tissue (prep, storage, inventory, etc.).
  • Maintain all equipment in area (refrigerator, dishwasher, etc.).
  • Responsible for all cleaning, restocking, maintenance, and refers for repairs of room daily.
  • Implement and adhere to all OSHA regulations

Education and Training
  • Educates clients and stakeholders about simulation methodology and provides simulation and procedural skills instruction for learners.
  • Training faculty, if needed, on simulation debriefing techniques may be required.
  • Facilitate self-directed learner practice sessions and pipeline programs

Technical Responsibilities
  • Assist the IT manager to ensure the stability of the technology infrastructure
  • Proficiency in operating the technology in the Center inclusive of the audio/visual system.
  • Maintain repair and maintenance records for all simulation and computer equipment.
  • Test equipment, troubleshoot equipment and perform minor electronic and/or mechanical repairs on simulators to ensure all is operational.
  • Proficient in all virtual simulation software inclusive of training faculty and learners.
  • Proficient in operating and assisting faculty and learners on Virtual Reality trainers.
  • Assist in ensuring Center is HIPPA and FERPA rules are followed.
  • Coordinating with equipment manufacturers and technology partners regarding equipment troubleshooting and systems problems; maintain record of repairs.
  • Evaluate new equipment and maintenance agreements.

Administrative Responsibilities
  • Identifies opportunities for improvement, innovation, and development of initiatives for the integration of simulation in clinical education.
  • Attend and contribute to all planning meetings and dry runs scheduled for sessions.
  • Maintenance Reports - Provide quarterly equipment maintenance reports.
  • Asset Management-Tracks all medical and disposable supply usage, expiration, and ordering to ensure supplies are on hand at all times daily through management asset system.
  • Coordinate the ordering of all equipment and supplies to keep the simulators operational.
  • Provide various reports to supervisors as needed.
  • Facilitate Center tours for visitors
  • Assist in implementing disaster recovery and back-up procedures and information security and control structures.
  • Keep abreast of all university and healthcare policies to integrate into Simulation Center policies.

Research Initiatives
  • Supports the short-, immediate, and long-term teaching, research, and revenue-generating goals of the Center.

Professional Development
  • Maintains professional knowledge to understand the use and operation of different simulator technologies ranging from anatomic models and task trainers to screen-based simulations to full body patient simulators and virtual reality surgical simulators.
  • Professional Certification and Center training
    • Professional Certification - Become certified by the Society for Simulation in Healthcare (Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist- CHSOS) in year 2
    • Complete Center simulation training curriculum in year 1
  • Keep abreast of new innovation and laboratory guidelines including Universal Precautions
  • Benchmarking state-of the-art practices.

  • Attends educational and technical workshops and seminars quarterly and implement new knowledge learned into work practice,
  • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education:
  • Associate's degree in related field required
  • Prefer Bachelor's degree in related field

Experience:
  • 5 years professional experience in an academic, clinical healthcare or simulation learning environment
  • Working knowledge and proficiency in computers, application software, and operating systems and information technology equipment
  • Experience with or willingness to learn Laerdal, METI, Gaumard, Harvey and other simulation systems and equipment.
  • Certification and/or experience in Laboratory Science
  • Experience with the tools used in making minor electronic and/or mechanical repairs, e.g., soldering gun/iron, wire strippers, multi-meters, etc.

Licensure:
  • Certification in simulation or education preferred

Special Skills:
  • High fidelity simulation preferred.
  • Prefer experience with operation of task trainers low and high-fidelity mannequins AV simulation software and scenario development required.

Must be able to work nights and weekends.

Expected Pay Range: $57,979 - $63,777.60
