SUMMARY Lays out, fits and welds fabricated, cast and forged components to assemble structural forms such as machinery frames, tanks and pressure vessels.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Communications • Reads and comprehends instructions and correspondence; asks appropriate questions and performs the instructed task.
• Effectively and respectfully communicates with supervisor and coworkers in verbal and written formats.

• Coordinates all communications between floor supervisors and management; demonstrates effective verbal communication skills.

Documentation • Completes and submits daily labor tickets as required.

Safety and Risk Management • Uses appropriate safety equipment and personal protection equipment.
• Accepts accountability for own conduct and obligations.
• Successfully completes eight hour OSHA training within six months of employment and annually thereafter.
• Demonstrates consistent awareness for safety and risk issues.
• Demonstrates an understanding of industry practices and applicable regulations.
• Performs daily inspections of work cell and documents and resolves safety issues immediately.
• Orients new employees to job safety and risk management.
• Enforces safety rules and regulations.
Technical - General • Able to do repetitive work and effectively use hand tools.
• Performs maintenance and repairs to in-plant equipment.
• Through hands-on experience and course work, acts as the content expert on projects.
• Demonstrates advanced mechanical aptitude and reasons through mechanical problems in a logical manner.
• Plans, leads and executes projects in a manner ensuring safety and efficient time management.
• Reports job progress as required internally, with proper documentation.
• Provides feedback to management regarding process improvement opportunities.
• Able to anticipate and foresee issues with blueprints and schematics prior to the start of projects, and takes appropriate corrective action.
• Demonstrates self-motivation, self-discipline and attention to detail.
Technical - Job-Specific • Lays out, measures, positions, aligns and fits components together.
• Assembles parts from blueprints; able to design, fabricate and weld components without blueprints as needed.
• Discusses errors in diagrams or production order with supervisor or engineer to clarify production problems.
• Sets up equipment and welds parts, using arc, gas-shielded arc, submerged arc or gas welding equipment and plasma cutter.
• Performs related tasks such as thermal cutting and grinding.
• Repairs products by dismantling, straightening, reshaping and reassembling parts.
• Finishes part per blueprint, deburs sharp edges.
• Drills and taps holes in specified locations for mounting control units.
• Competently welds up to 3" plate.
• Able to weld in all positions.
• Ensures weld quality.
• Capable of welding with flux core and TIG.
• Able to operate machines such as plate rolls, shears, iron worker, press break and welder, as required.
• Anticipates, prevents, pinpoints and rectifies potential problems.
• Facilitates and/or performs corrective action if problems are noted in function or appearance.
• Possesses knowledge and demonstrates abililty to install and identify hydraulic components and hoses.
• Able to operate machines, operator drill press, engine lathes, and vertical mills.

Education and/or Experience - High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or
- One to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
Language Skills - Read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos
- Write simple correspondence
- Effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization
Mathematical Skills • Add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
• Compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs
Reasoning Abilities - Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
- Deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
