Job Title: Shop Technician - Furniture Repair, Painting & Upholstery

Location: Raleigh, NC

Reports To: Shop Manager


Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Shop Technician to join our team, specializing in the restoration and repair of office furniture. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in painting, upholstery, and general furniture repair, with a strong eye for quality and craftsmanship. This role is crucial in ensuring that our refurbished office furniture meets the highest standards of appearance, functionality, and durability.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform painting, staining, and refinishing of various furniture materials (wood, metal, plastic, etc.)
  • Reupholster office chairs, panels, and other soft seating using a range of fabrics and materials
  • Diagnose and repair damaged or worn-out office furniture, including desks, chairs, file cabinets, and cubicles
  • Sand, prep, and clean furniture surfaces before painting or refinishing
  • Disassemble and reassemble furniture for repairs and customization
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment
  • Use power tools, hand tools, and upholstery equipment safely and effectively
  • Ensure all work is completed to company standards and within project timelines
  • Assist with loading/unloading furniture and moving inventory as needed

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical or trade school training a plus
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience in furniture repair, upholstery, or painting preferred
  • Knowledge of materials, tools, and techniques used in furniture restoration
  • Ability to read and understand product specifications and work orders
  • Strong attention to detail and pride in craftsmanship
  • Physically able to lift and move heavy items (up to 75 lbs) and stand for long periods
  • Basic knowledge of workplace safety and tool maintenance
  • Excellent time management and communication skills

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with spray painting equipment and upholstery tools
  • Familiarity with office furniture brands (e.g., Herman Miller, Steelcase, Haworth)
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus
