Description
JOB SUMMARY
The Shop / Field Truck Mechanic performs diagnostic tests for routine maintenance procedures and determines the best course of action for damaged parts and systems. The Field Service Technician will operate a mobile service vehicle and travel to customer locations to perform high-quality field services, repair electrical issues and work on HVAC, pumps, hydraulics, engines, and transmissions.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Mobile and Shop PM Services
- Runs diagnostics on vehicles
- Completes truck repair and maintenance work in accordance with factory and industry standards
- Repairs malfunctioning components
- Replaces worn-out parts
- Changes hydraulic fluids, oil, filters, water pumps, etc.
- Drives trucks before and after and after repairs
- Prepares service reports and provides pertinent work order details
- Field Service Mechanic
- Performs basic to intermediate repair, maintenance and troubleshooting offsite with little or no direct supervision
- Performs basic to intermediate troubleshooting and diagnoses of equipment malfunctions and failures
- Removes and installs parts, disassembles and assembles components to factory specifications
- Tests, makes adjustments, and verifies proper operations of all repairs and adjustments
- Prepares and completes all job-related documents (writes service reports, orders parts, and maintains clear customer records) efficiently and timely
- Maintains service vehicle inspection records, daily inspections and driver logs as required by DOT
- Plans methods and sequence of performing assigned repairs and keeps rework to a minimum
- Works safely at all times and adheres to all safety policies and company procedures (including contamination control and HAZMAT rules and regulations)
- Maintains all company equipment, tools, and vehicles in good, clean working condition.
- Keeps an organized, clean, and safe work area
- Works closely with Service Manager and Dispatcher and communicates job progress with manager, team, and customers as needed
- Completes other duties as assigned
Requirements
REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES
- Must be over 18 years of age
- Self-starter with strong mechanical aptitude
- Excellent customer service skills
- Must be able to work closely with other team members to meet company goals
- Ability to perform responsibilities at customer job site with minimal supervision
- Ability to operate a variety of equipment in the field and on customer job sites
- Ability to communicate in a written format clearly and concisely
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- An excellent driving record is required
- Preferred experience in shop-service environment
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Basic / Diesel Mechanic with 2 - 3 years of experience
Diesel Certification a Plus.
Heavy Machinery, Heavy Trucks Mechanic
Computer Diagnostics - Cummins Insight, J Pro, Ford and CAT ET a plus.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move an items or bulky objects up to 70 pounds
- Ability to perform the repeated motions of reaching, standing, stooping, kneeling, bending and climbing beside, onto and under a variety of heavy equipment
- Ability to work inside and in an outside environment with inclement weather conditions (including heat, cold, dampness, humidity, etc.)
- Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time
- Ability to work overtime and/or Saturdays based on customer demand or as needed
- Ability to travel or make overnight stays on or near job sites when required
- Ability to work alone onsite and offsite
- Ability to work under trucks and to climb heights (ladders, on top of diesel trucks) and balance (on top of truck, ladder, etc.)
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Must pass a criminal background and motor vehicle check
- Must pass preemployment drug test and submit to random drug tests
- Must maintain a valid driver's license (CDL License Class B preferred)
