Shipping Clerk - Berkeley, CA

PURPOSE

As a Shipping Operations Specialist, you play a key role in handling and shipping Kogenate final product, frozen intermediates, hazardous chemical raw materials, and other miscellaneous materials. Your responsibilities include inventory control of Final Products stored in the B80 +5 Cold Room located on the Berkeley site. You ensure efficient shipping operations while maintaining compliance with cGMP and safety regulations, contributing significantly to our production and distribution processes.

This role is crucial for ensuring the seamless operation of our shipping processes and maintaining the high standards of safety and compliance that Bayer is known for.

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The primary responsibilities of this role are to:
  • Pick and deliver International Customer Service (ICS) and Domestic Customer Service (DCS) orders;
  • Prepare biological and miscellaneous items for domestic and international shipments;
  • Assist in the receipt, transfer, storage, and shipment of frozen intermediates, raw materials, solutions, HPPS, media, and hazardous chemicals;
  • Perform weekly inventory checks of final products and reconcile with SAP inventory, reporting discrepancies;
  • Transfer, stage, and ship frozen intermediates to third-party contractors as needed;
  • Maintain housekeeping and department cleaning per cGMP requirements;
  • Assist with delivery and shipment of bulk chemicals, ensuring proper documentation and compliance with hazardous materials regulations;
  • Follow all cGMP and safety rules, including daily safety inspections of forklifts and motorized handcarts;
  • Order shipping-related supplies and work closely with the Purchasing department to manage inventory levels and prevent delays;
  • Interact with QA, QC, ICS, and DCS to ensure proper documentation and clearance of Final Product materials;
  • Perform and be proficient in cold room operations, including safety, storing, transferring, and quarantining of Final Products;
  • Review shipping forecast schedules and stage products following QA releases and shipping schedules;
  • Ensure accurate inventory management in cold rooms, updating movements in SAP and notifying discrepancies;
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
WHO YOU ARE

Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma or GED;
  • Prior experience in shipping pharmaceutical cold chain products (2-8 C).
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and comprehend English for understanding instructions and SOPs;
  • Proficiency in math and following directions;
  • Acceptable attendance and performance record;
  • Willingness to work weekends, holidays, and overtime as required;
  • Obtain a forklift license and operate warehouse forklifts;
  • Proficiency in SAP functions and data input using bar code equipment;
  • Strict adherence to safety rules and regulations.
  • Ability to lift/carry up to 50 lbs. and push/pull up to 350 lbs. with assistance;
  • Capability to withstand frequent repetitive movements, walking, stooping, crouching, kneeling, climbing, and sitting;
  • Tolerance for exposure to decontaminating chemicals;
  • Ability to work in cold room and freezer environments for extended periods (+5C and -30C);
  • Wear protective clothing (PPE) as required;
  • Ability to identify color-coded labels.
  • Experience with wire guided Raymond/Hyster reach lifts, stand-up forklifts, motorized pallet jacks, hand carts, calculators, computer terminals, bar code equipment, pallet stretch wrappers, and related equipment;
  • Familiarity with decontamination and cleaning solutions such as sodium hypochlorite and LpHse.
Employees can expect to be paid a union wage of $39.76 per hour. Additional compensation may include a bonus or commission (if relevant). Additional benefits include health care, vision, dental, retirement, PTO, sick leave, etc
