License Requirement: Candidates must possess a valid NYC Stationary Engineer License (commonly known as a High-Pressure Boiler License).
Role Overview:
Reporting directly to the Operations Manager, the Shift Supervisor oversees the day-to-day functioning of plant operations during assigned shifts. This includes monitoring power generation systems, ensuring compliance with operational and safety standards, and coordinating personnel activities.
The Supervisor will conduct routine inspections, provide on-site leadership, and take charge during any abnormal conditions or emergencies, including directing responses and executing key operational tasks.
Key Responsibilities:
- Promote and maintain a safe working environment across the plant.
- Ensure all staff follow operational procedures and safety guidelines.
- Authorize equipment lockout/tagout procedures and issue safety permits in line with internal protocols.
- Ensure full compliance with environmental standards and regulatory permits.
- Respond to workplace incidents and injuries as needed.
- Supervise completion of daily, weekly, and monthly inspections and logs.
- Drive plant performance and optimize system operations.
- Address equipment issues and assist with troubleshooting.
- Coordinate maintenance scheduling and activities.
- Manage shift-specific projects as delegated by management.
- Train and supervise a skilled and flexible team, ensuring cross-functional capabilities.
- Oversee technical development and performance of shift personnel.
- Maintain records related to staffing and operations.
Experience & Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years' experience in power or steam plant operations and maintenance.
- Practical knowledge and experience working with high-pressure boilers and power generation equipment are essential.
- An engineering or technical degree is preferred but not required with sufficient hands-on experience.
- Knowledge of mechanical systems, plant control systems, steam and water circuits, and high/low voltage equipment is highly valued.
- Must be capable of reading and interpreting technical documentation and logic diagrams.
- Strong leadership, communication, and decision-making skills.
- Must be willing to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, to support continuous plant operations.
- Experience with control systems such as DCS and PLC is required.
- Valid High-Pressure Boiler License issued in New York City is mandatory.
Working Conditions:
- Outdoor and indoor work required, including exposure to temperature extremes, heights, noise, and confined spaces.
- Physical demands include lifting up to 50 lbs and the ability to use respirators and other safety gear.
- Must be available to respond to emergency call-ins at any hour.
- Driving responsibilities require a valid driver's license.
- Must comply with all PPE regulations, including facial hair restrictions for respirator use.
- Contact lenses are restricted unless medically required.
