Description of the Position (Purpose of the Position):

The Secretary of Finance is responsible for effectively and responsibly managing the fiscal resources allocated to the Student Government Association as outlined in the most updated version of the Student Government Association bylaws.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Administer all budgets under the auspices of the SGA including the SGA Administrative budget, SGA branch budgets, and student organization budgets, and inform the SGA executive team of all policies regarding said budgets by September 15th of the year they will be implemented.
  • Lead the SGA Finance Team.
  • Oversee the monthly reconciliation of SGA and student organization credit cards in collaboration with the professional staff of the Office of Student Activities.
  • Present a report to the Senate on the status of all budget matters as requested.
  • Provide financial training to student organization members throughout the academic year as needed.
  • Monitor allocated funds of SGA entities and maintain up-to-date records for an audit upon request by a majority vote of the Senate and at the end of the academic year.
  • Assist in the selection and training of the incoming SGA Secretary of Finance in collaboration with the incoming SGA President and Vice President, including the completion of a transition report.
  • Attend SGA Executive Team meetings and additional meetings as requested.
  • Maintain three weekly office hours in the Office of Student Activities (BC 108)
Qualifications: (Education/Experience/Skills)
  • Experience with budget management
  • Strong time management skills and an ability to meet deadlines
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and/or Google Spreadsheets
  • Must be of sophomore standing or higher at the time at which the position is assumed.
  • Must have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher.
  • Must not be found in violation of any St. Olaf policies.
