Job SummaryThe Server and Virtualization Administrator will implement, manage, and support server and virtualization technologies. This role involves monitoring, managing, optimizing, updating, backing up, and securing the server and virtualization infrastructure, operating systems, server tools, and server-side applications.
Required Qualifications - Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or Information Technology and two years of relevant work experience, or five years of IT infrastructure administration experience
- Experience in server management in a physical and virtual environment including VMware, Windows Server, Linux, and related systems
- Possession of a valid Texas Driver License, good driving record, and insurability on Midland College's insurance policy
Preferred Qualifications - Professional certifications
- Five years of server management experience in a physical and virtual environment including VMware, AWS, Azure, Windows Server, Linux and related systems
- Five years of network administration experience, involving server configuration, upgrading, and patch management
- Two years of experience in managing a VOIP phone system
- Two years of experience in information technology security
Essential Functions - Focus on customer service
- Install, configure, and maintain physical and virtual servers (Windows and Linux), including VMware or other virtualization platforms, to ensure optimal performance, reliability, and security
- Manage virtual machine deployments, migrations, and configurations, ensuring efficient resource allocation and high availability
- Perform off-hours patching as necessary, along with quarterly maintenance patching
- In conjunction with the IT security team, implement and monitor security measures for the protection of data
- Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, and connectivity issues in a timely and efficient manner
- Manage backup operations and ensure data recovery processes are effective and tested regularly
- Proactively monitor system performance and capacity planning to scale resources as needed
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date technical documentation for server setups, configurations, and procedures
- Ensure all server operations comply with the college policies, state regulations, and other relevant standards
- Lead or assist in IT projects that involve server infrastructure, including hardware upgrades or software deployments
- Assist in managing other networking equipment, such as wireless communications, security cameras, and emergency notification systems
- Assist with and support on-prem and cloud-based enterprise produces
- Assist with and support applications
- Participates in incident response activities, including containment, investigation, and recovery
- Other duties as assigned
Physical Demands - Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time
- Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time
- Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation

- Frequent communication with others, exchanging accurate information
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus
- Frequently moves boxes or equipment weighing up to 50 pounds
- Occasionally ascends/descends a ladder up to 30 feet tall to service IT equipment
- Flexibility to work both indoors and outdoors
- Ability to work extended hours, nights, weekends, and holidays as needed
- Move frequently between the office and other locations on or off campus
- Occasional travel for training, meetings, and events both in and out of town
