Must Haves:

  • 5+ years of experience as a wastewater operator - biological wastewater treatment, NOT chemical wastewater treatment
  • Florida Wastewater Operator License - Class C or higher
  • Understanding of FLDEP regulations, including DMR submission requirements
  • Familiarity with SCADA systems and PLC controls

Plusses:

  • Class B or Class A Florida Wastewater Operator License
  • Experience with HachWims/RIO

Day to Day:

A client is looking for aSenior Wastewater Operator to join their team near Lake Mary, Florida. This person will be responsible for the following:

  • Supervise and Coordinate Team Activities: Directly oversee junior operators, delegating tasks and ensuring effective collaboration to achieve daily operational goals. Provide guidance, support, and training to junior staff, fostering a collaborative and safety-focused work environment.
  • Daily Operations Management: Lead the daily operations of wastewater treatment systems, maintaining alignment with regulatory standards and company protocols. Collaborate closely with operator to ensure smooth operations across all units, addressing any overlapping areas efficiently.
  • Regulatory Compliance and Reporting: Ensure accurate, timely submission of Discharge Monitoring Reports (DMR) to the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FLDEP). Verify the regulatory compliance of all documentation and operational activities.
  • Routine Testing and System Monitoring: Oversee routine sample collection, process control, permit-required tests, inspections, monitoring, and maintenance of wastewater treatment units to ensure efficient operation.
  • Process Optimization: Conduct and supervise process control adjustments to optimize nitrification and denitrification, consulting with Operator as needed for high-impact adjustments.
  • Data Analysis and Improvement Initiatives: Analyze wastewater sample data, identifying trends, anomalies, and areas for improvement. Guide junior operators in recording, interpreting, and addressing any performance issues.
  • Troubleshooting and Issue Resolution: Lead troubleshooting and resolution efforts for operational issues related to pumps, blowers, controls, and other components of wastewater treatment systems, ensuring quick response and minimal downtime.
  • Implementation of New Technologies: Support the integration of new technologies and processes, involving junior operators in implementation phases to build team capability and enhance treatment efficiency.
  • Record Keeping and Compliance Documentation: Maintain comprehensive, accurate records of system performance, maintenance activities, and regulatory compliance. Ensure junior operators are trained and consistent in record-keeping practices.
  • Collaboration and Procedure Development: Work with engineering and compliance teams to develop and refine operational procedures, involving junior operators to build team cohesion and best practices.
  • Ongoing Professional Development: Encourage junior operators' participation in training activities and maintain personal certification, staying current with industry standards, trends, and regulatory updates.


Compensation:

$75,000 to $85,000 per year annual salary.
