SMX is seeking experienced Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) specializing in virtualization to support the deployment and sustainment of secure cloud environments and DevSecOps toolchains for a Federal customer. These roles are central to ensuring high-performance, scalable, and compliant virtualized infrastructure and automation pipelines in AWS GovCloud IL5 environments. Essential Duties: Architect and optimize virtualized compute environments within AWS GovCloud to support secure cloud landing zones and mission applications. Lead efforts to virtualize infrastructure and streamline deployment of shared services in compliance with IL5 requirements and DoD SCCA. Support the configuration, integration, and sustainment of virtualization platforms and automation tools used in CI/CD pipelines. Provide technical leadership and deep expertise in VM lifecycle management, container orchestration, and performance tuning. Ensure virtual environments meet DoD cybersecurity standards through configuration hardening, patching, and continuous monitoring. Collaborate with DevSecOps teams to optimize pipeline performance and implement best practices for automation and resilience. Contribute to ATO packages by maintaining required RMF documentation and security artifacts related to virtualized services. Troubleshoot complex system issues and recommend strategies for scaling and enhancing virtualization strategies across cloud environments. Required Skills & Experience: BA/BS in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field. 8+ years of experience in systems engineering, with a strong focus on virtualization and cloud technologies. Demonstrated expertise with virtualization platforms such as VMware, KVM, or Hyper-V in secure environments. Experience with AWS services supporting IL5 workloads, including EC2, VPC, IAM, and CloudFormation. In-depth knowledge of containerization and orchestration (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes). Familiarity with infrastructure as code (IaC) tools such as Terraform or Ansible. Strong understanding of DoD cybersecurity frameworks including RMF, STIGs, and NIST 800-53. Active Secret clearance. Desired Skills & Experience Experience deploying and managing virtualized environments in AWS GovCloud or similar regulated cloud environments. Certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect, VMware VCP, or Security+. Experience with GitLab, JFrog Artifactory, SonarQube, or similar DevSecOps toolchains. Familiarity with Zero Trust Architecture and DoD SCCA-compliant cloud implementations. Strong documentation and communication skills for collaboration with engineering, security, and mission teams.
