Position Overview
JMT is actively seeking a Senior Traffic Engineer to lead and grow our traffic engineering practice throughout South Carolina. This leadership role requires a strong technical background, project management skills, and a passion for business development. The ideal candidate will drive project execution, mentor junior engineers, and help expand our presence in the regional market.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead traffic engineering initiatives and strategic growth across South Carolina.
- Build and maintain client relationships, identify new business opportunities, and contribute to proposal development.
- Manage and deliver traffic engineering projects including:
- Traffic signal design
- Signing and pavement marking plans
- Crash and safety analyses
- Traffic studies and modeling
- Maintenance of traffic plans
- Roadway lighting (as applicable)
- Supervise and mentor engineering staff, handle staffing and performance evaluations.
- Coordinate with clients, government agencies, contractors, and other stakeholders.
- Support budgeting, resource planning, and department operations.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 10 years of experience in traffic engineering design, planning, and analysis.
- Bachelor's degree in civil engineering (BSCE from ABET-accredited program).
- Registered Professional Engineer (PE) in South Carolina.
- Strong working knowledge of SCDOT standards, policies, and procedures.
- Experience with traffic analysis and simulation software (e.g., Synchro, VISSIM, or similar).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) certification.
- Existing client relationships within the South Carolina market.
- Prior experience preparing successful technical proposals.
Work Environment
- Hybrid work model: Combination of remote and in-office work.
- Standard office conditions: occasional travel may be required.
- No exposure to hazardous conditions within the office environment.
