JOB SUMMARY

We are seeking a Senior Technical Application Engineer who will provide pre or post sales technical field engineering, product demonstration and training support to potential and existing customers. This role provides technical expertise on Doble protection hardware and software, testing of relays and protection schemes, and training. The Senior TAE supports market research and product development input to Solutions Managers. This role will be based in Chicago, IL reporting to the Customer Service Director in Canada.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Customer Service:
  • Provides pre and post sales technical support on operation and application protection hardware and software to potential and existing customers
  • Supports the Regional Sales Managers to provide demonstrations of Doble protection hardware and software to potential customers
  • Provides support to Doble customers via e-mail, telephone, and web-based solutions
  • Prepares presentations and delivers training to customers on testing techniques and applications of Doble protection hardware and software solutions
  • May participate in conferences/trade shows and other company sponsored events including committee meetings, general sessions, user group meetings and meeting with customers
  • Communicates customer needs to Doble management, members of the TAE Department, Solution Management, etc.
  • Reports and keeps record of existing issues via established software bug-logging system and more comprehensive Doble-wide system and provides customer issue resolution with existing products
  • May provide basic language support via term extraction from manuals, guides, brochures, and other product literature
  • Serves as a trainer on various Doble products to the Sales teams and Channel Partners
Personnel Management:
  • Supports other application engineers within the department and other departments within the company
  • Works independently with very little management oversight on daily activities
  • Provides mentorship and guidance to other Technical Application Engineers, regardless of level
  • Collaborates with other departments (primarily Engineering, Client Service and Sales) and all individuals facilitate positive working relationships with all internal and external Doble Stakeholders.
  • Continuously works to upgrade skills concerning computers, software, test theory, test equipment operation, apparatus operation and training presentations, in accordance with ISO 9001 Standard Operating Procedures
Project Management:
  • Prepares test plans for various models of protection, meter, transducer and control devices and systems for use in various Doble software applications, including the use of worksheets and programming scripts to make them reusable and automated
  • Supports new product development and current product enhancement via incorporation of customer feedback
  • Leads development projects with Solutions & Engineering to ensure product meets customer requirements
  • Provides support in testing new product feature sets, and software evaluation to improve overall product quality and make feature suggestions to Engineering
  • Performs other duties as assigned by management
QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:

Bachelor's Degree in Electrical or Power and Energy Engineering. Master's degree preferred. Equivalent experience in the field of electrical power engineering will be considered in lieu of a degree.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
  • 5 years of experience in the electrical power industry particularly in protective relay testing
  • Working knowledge of Doble protection hardware and software solutions
  • A solid experience and history of commitment to customer service
  • Familiar with protective relays
  • Demonstrated superior skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point and Visio)
  • Proven project management skills and ability to meet critical deadlines while managing multiple priorities
  • Must have a valid passport and be able to obtain a valid Visa to any country required for Doble field work
  • Must have a valid driver's license to drive rental car to visit domestic and international customers
  • Domestic and international travel, including air travel, may be required up to 50%; this level can vary throughout the year due to customer demand. Must live within 60 minutes of a major international airport.
  • Must be fluent English, both oral and written form.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE (Not Required):
  • Hands-on experience of testing of relays and protection schemes
  • Previous experience working for a U.S.-based company
  • Familiarity with ENOSERV RTS and Powerbase is a plus
  • Fluency in additional languages other than English.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
  • Ability to test devices including simple electromechanical relays, meters, transducers, and control devices
  • Strong mathematical skills for modeling relay characteristics and for fault calculations and transients
  • The ability to teach and relate ideas or concepts to individuals with varied levels of experience
  • The ability to express ideas clearly in written, oral and developing new media communications
  • A professional demeanor always both with stakeholders both internal and external to Doble
  • A strong balance of product and service orientation
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

While performing the duties of this job the employee is often required to stand, sit, use computers, read, write, type, use copy machines, file paperwork, use telephones, and utilize written and oral communication to interact with clients, co-workers, and customers. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals to perform the essential functions of this job. Must be capable of lifting 30 pounds. Must use assistance when lifting 50 or more pounds.

Actual base salary offered to the hired applicant will be determined based on their work location, level, qualifications, job related skills, as well as relevant education or training experience.
Salary Pay Range Minimum $116,426.92 - Midpoint $145,533.64
