Senior Tax Associate - Sales and Use Tax

Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare, review, and file sales and use tax returns while ensuring compliance with applicable state and local tax laws and regulations.
- Perform detailed nexus studies, tax research, and taxability determinations for products, services, and jurisdictions.
- Manage and oversee tax audits, responding to inquiries and providing required documentation in a timely manner.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders across finance, accounting, and operations to ensure proper tax treatment and identify planning opportunities.
- Provide consulting expertise to proactively identify and implement strategies for tax savings and risk mitigation.
- Maintain knowledge of current and changing tax laws/regulations and advise leadership on potential impacts.
- Work with third-party consultants or systems to streamline and improve tax processes, including tax technology solutions.
- Mentor junior staff members, assisting with the development of their technical and professional skills.
- Assist with acquiring or updating tax registrations and ensuring compliance for new business initiatives or expansions.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA, MST, or CMI a plus).
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience in sales and use tax compliance, preferably with a focus on multi-state jurisdictions.
- Strong knowledge of state and local tax regulations, tax research, and audit preparation.
- Proficiency in tax software and tools (e.g., Vertex, Avalara, or other tax engine systems).
- Excellent analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to handle high volumes of data while meeting tight deadlines.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to explain complex tax concepts in simple terms.
