Job Overview
Our client is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Tax Associate to join their team at a leading CPA firm in New York. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of tax laws, regulations, and compliance issues, with a proven track record of preparing, reviewing, and managing tax returns for individual, corporate, partnership, and non-profit clients. As a Senior Tax Associate, you will collaborate with managers and partners to deliver high-quality tax services and contribute to the firm's growth and success.
Key Responsibilities
Tax Preparation & Review
Prepare and review federal, state, and local income tax returns for individuals, corporations, partnerships, and other entities.
Ensure compliance with all tax laws, regulations, and deadlines for a variety of clients, including high-net-worth individuals, small businesses, and large corporations.
Review tax filings for accuracy, completeness, and adherence to regulations and client requirements.
Assist in complex tax planning and the preparation of tax provisions for corporate clients.
Client Relationship Management
Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, ensuring high levels of satisfaction and timely communication.
Provide timely responses to client inquiries, addressing any tax issues or questions.
Assist clients with tax planning strategies, helping to minimize their tax liabilities and achieve their financial goals.
Collaborate with clients to gather necessary information and documentation for tax filings.
Tax Research & Compliance
Conduct in-depth research on various tax issues, staying up-to-date with changing tax laws and regulations.
Advise clients on the tax implications of their financial decisions, including mergers and acquisitions, retirement planning, estate planning, and business structuring.
Assist with tax audits and represent clients in audits with tax authorities when necessary.
Identify and recommend tax-saving opportunities to clients.
Mentorship & Team Development
Mentor and provide guidance to junior tax associates and staff, reviewing their work and helping them develop their technical skills.
Provide feedback and training to junior staff on tax processes, regulations, and best practices.
Collaborate with senior team members and leadership to improve departmental efficiency and client service.
Tax Planning & Strategy
Collaborate with senior leadership to develop and implement tax planning strategies for clients, both for individuals and businesses.
Assist in the preparation of tax projections, including estimates and forecasting.
Support the development of long-term tax planning strategies to help clients mitigate future tax liabilities.
Special Projects & Other Duties
Assist with ad hoc tax-related projects and special assignments, as required by the firm.
Participate in client presentations and discussions around tax strategy and compliance.
Assist with internal initiatives to streamline processes, improve efficiency, and enhance client satisfaction.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (required).
CPA certification (preferred).
Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in public accounting, with a focus on tax services.
Experience preparing and reviewing tax returns for individuals, corporations, and partnerships.
Strong working knowledge of federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations.
Experience with tax research and software (e.g., CCH, Thomson Reuters, ProSystem fx).
Skills & Competencies

Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in Taxation or related field (preferred).
Experience working with high-net-worth individuals, partnerships, or multi-state taxation.
Experience with international tax issues and cross-border transactions.
