They are a commercial electrical contractor working with companies to build, service, and maintain their electrical needs.Job Description: The Senior Structured Cabling Estimator is responsible for developing accurate and competitive cost estimates for structured cabling projects, including voice, data, fiber optic, and low voltage systems. This position requires strong technical expertise in structured cabling, excellent analytical abilities, and the skill to interpret detailed specifications and drawings to prepare comprehensive project bids for commercial and industrial environments.What Youll Do: Review bid documents, technical drawings, specifications, and project scope to develop detailed material and labor cost estimates. Perform quantity takeoffs for structured cabling systems based on blueprints and construction documents. Calculate labor requirements considering installation complexity, site conditions, and project-specific factors. Prepare detailed bills of materials for copper and fiber optic cabling systems. Obtain and evaluate vendor and subcontractor quotes for specialized materials and services. Identify and recommend value engineering solutions to optimize project costs. Collaborate closely with project managers, engineers, and operational teams to ensure estimating accuracy. Prepare complete proposal packages, including pricing breakdowns, clarifications, and exclusions. Participate in bid review meetings and project handoffs with operations teams. Stay informed on current labor rates, material pricing trends, and industry cost factors. Build and maintain relationships with suppliers, manufacturers, and subcontractors. Analyze bid results to enhance future estimating processes and accuracy. Required Skills: Minimum of 5 years of experience in structured cabling estimating or a closely related field. Strong technical knowledge of structured cabling systems, including Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6A, fiber optics, and related infrastructure. Proficiency with estimating and takeoff software (such as Accubid, ConEst, McCormick, or comparable programs). Solid understanding of industry standards and codes, including TIA/EIA, BICSI, and NEC. Experience estimating for large-scale commercial and enterprise projects. Ability to read and interpret construction documents, specifications, riser diagrams, and blueprints. Excellent analytical and mathematical skills with strong attention to detail. Ability to manage multiple bid projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines. Effective communication skills for working with internal teams and external partners. Nice to Haves: BICSI certification (such as RCDD, RTPM, or ESS). Experience with estimating software specific to low voltage or structured cabling systems. Background in electrical contracting or low voltage system installation. Knowledge of access control, security, and audiovisual systems. Understanding of network equipment and infrastructure design requirements. Experience with design-build project delivery and conceptual estimating.
