Job Description:
  • Our client is seeking an experienced and visionary Senior Infrastructure Engineer to design, lead, and scale modern infrastructure systems in a hybrid cloud landscape, with a strong emphasis on open-source Hyper-Converged Infrastructure (HCI) and Software-Defined Networking (SDN).
  • This role will spearhead platform engineering initiatives and act as a bridge between infrastructure, platform, and Site Reliability Engineers (SREs) to ensure performance, scalability, and operational excellence.
  • Senior Staff Software Engineer brings deep technical expertise, a passion for open-source technologies, and leadership experience in architecting distributed, cloud-native, and hybrid environments.
Job Responsibilities:
As a Senior Infrastructure Engineer, you will
  • Architect and lead infrastructure strategy across compute, storage, and networking using open-source tools and cloud-native best practices
  • Own the design and implementation of open-source HCI platforms (e.g., Proxmox VE, OpenStack, Harvester, Longhorn, Ceph) and SDN stacks
    (e.g., Open vSwitch, FRR, OpenDaylight)
  • Lead and mentor platform engineering teams to build reusable infrastructure layers, internal developer platforms (IDPs), and automation frameworks
  • Partner with SREs to implement observability, reliability, and autoscaling across systems. Drive adoption of Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) using Terraform, Ansible, or similar tools
  • Define and uphold architectural standards, security policies, and disaster recovery strategies
  • Oversee hybrid infrastructure (cloud + on-prem) transformation and modernization initiatives
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with DevOps, Security, and Application Engineering teams to deliver cohesive, reliable platforms
  • Evaluate and contribute to relevant open-source communities, and guide the selection of emerging technologies
Basic Qualifications:
  • Experienced in infrastructure or platform engineering, including 2+ years in a technical leadership or architecture role
  • Proven track record of designing and implementing large-scale infrastructure systems, including: Open-source HCI platforms (e.g., Proxmox, OpenStack, Ceph, KVM)
  • SDN technologies (e.g., Open vSwitch, Calico, Cilium, OpenDaylight)
  • Deep expertise in Linux systems, virtualization, networking protocols, and distributed storage
  • Strong experience with Infrastructure-as-Code, CI/CD systems, and container orchestration (e.g., Kubernetes)
  • Ability to define strategic roadmaps and lead cross-functional technical initiatives
  • Experience working in DevOps or SRE-driven organizations with a focus on reliability and observability
  • Strong scripting and automation skills (Go, Python, Bash, PowerShell)
  • Experience operating multi-cloud and hybrid environments
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in Rail, Shipping, Airline, Logistics, Warehousing, Supply Chain, or other Transportation industries
  • Contributions to open-source infrastructure projects or leadership in open-source communities
  • Cloud certifications (AWS, Azure, or GCP), RHCSA, or CompTIA Security+, Certified Kubernetes Administrator(CKA), and Certified Kubernetes Application Developer (CKAD)
  • Experience building Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) or Internal Developer Platforms (IDPs)
    Knowledge of Zero Trust networking and secure-by-design infrastructure
